XDC Anywhere?

Wouldn’t you going these days be awkward?

I did a lot of learning from pros, particularly early on… But it was not in person but on the NUG and beta MAILING Lists… I think I got a lot more that way then I would have in person.

That said if some years back they had had a conference close enough to home that I could have slept in my own bed (No travel or lodging cost - just burning some vacation time) I might have gone.

It would have been nice to meet people I had seen posting and interacted with for a good number of years virtually.

BTW If the pros had not been there when I was getting into RB, I likely would not have kept using it.

Oh man the Vegas conference after I was let go was definitely uncomfortable.

If you think “awkward” would stop me you really don’t know me well

It would be an idea to have you with some of the clients there and then request meetings with staff.
For that you got the Plus licenses.

I have no reason to go there on my own
IF client(s) want me to I’ll be there - plus license or not

I see there have been two reminders in the last 5 hours calling for speakers for the retreat. I’m reading that as very limited interest.

from what little I read on TOF… it looks like 3-5 people NOT employed by Xojo said they were going.

Probably for the Free Kool-aid

the folks who attended were usually people using xojo all day every day (employees, contractors, etc)
the past couple of years have seen a significant exodus of those people

so it wouldn’t surprise me if interest is lower

PLUS they did do XDC Anywhere and showed it IS possible to do something virtual
There are a lot of people that wont attend a $599 conference + hotels + flights when a virtual event might work just as well

I suppose I’m one of those 3-5–but I expect some alcohol!

I’d do it for $399. The $599 price point feel steep for what you’re getting.

For me to go that 599 is USD
Makes it > $700 CDN
Flights from here to Nashville are $400 + taxes & fees (probably closer to $500 all in)
Hotel is say 3 nights @269 per night USD - another $1000 CDN

Its about 2000 to go
For 2 days
Naw

I got in on the early bird price, so I fall in the middle of that. I’ll be driving from St. Louis, with pretty economical wheels, so I found it doable. I’m mainly in it to finally meet a few folks, with whom I’ve had pleasant correspondence over the years.

Good point, Less days is actually more expensive. Like how food companies are charging the same but putting less product in the box.

Yep, I looked at the early bird pricing. I was really tempted. Just right outside of my price to value ratio. I’d drive from Kansas and I have hotel points from my job; and yet I still couldn’t feel comfortable about it.

All of these issues we talk about kinda converge. It’s not just the price of the conference in a vacuum. If the new web2.0 was more robust I’d probably attend to get some tips and tricks. I flew down to Atlanta for that very reason when web1.0 came out. But alas, it doesn’t feel like a product that’s ready for me.

Every time I’ve tried to use Web 2.0 I drop it and use something else. The experience was wholly frustrating every time - from my experience it’s still not even close to ready for use.

Similar for me but XDC Miami when Web 2.0 STILL wasn’t ready. Big waste of money hearing more excuses and how Geoff said Xojo is "well staffed’.

I stopped using Xojo at that point, moving to PHP. It sucked, but I’m in a good place now!

My decision turned out very well since Greg quit. Web 2.0 is pretty much abandonware. I’m glad the new guy is on it, but now he has to live with Gregs decisions. Big giant mess.

Android is very likely to be a similar experience. From what I read, it’ll likely be like Web 2.0 which was pretty an pre-alpha in testing and maybe a beta when released as a SOLD product and is still hobbled.

Sure seems like snake oil.

from what I have seen/read “Xojo for iOS” is barely a “BETA” so why hope for more from Android?
