I will be sorry if this place goes away… I’ve been seeing the posts of some who post here for many years and they have been helpful to me and I appreciate it.
I have not been doing much coding for awhile now, but I thought I would eventual get back to doing some…
If this place goes away I will miss it.
Fully understand your motivation. You’ve done a great job here, so I say a big THANK YOU NORMAN!
I find this site a good place to post puzzles, problems and solutions, things that would totally get lost in the chat forums. But I understand the cost and effort required to maintain it. Unfortuantly I personally do not have the resources to help in that regard.
Its actually pretty low maintenance as far as the software goes
Moderation isnt an issue very often
The cost is ~ 20 a month (not a big deal)
Just not finding that much gets posted and so the activity level here is extremely low
Leading me to conclude that maybe this place has outlived its usefulness
Honestly, (and personally) I think this site still has some usefullness left. Being as the are few other public areas where this kind of stuff can be posted and responded to. Especially since many of us are banned from TOF, not to mention the subject matters go beyond “that other product”
I have seen periods of very low activity on other forums, too. At some point in time, all came back to normal a activity.
It might be that we’ve said all we need to say about Xojo. It’s a failing company that failed its users and keeps doing the same (stupid) things over and over again expecting different results.
But this site should not have its sole purpose be “Xojo : Failings and Letdowns”, it should be about a group of like professionals moving on with new tools, new adventures, new ideas and problems that need to be discussed… It should be about Swift, ObjC, Java, PHP, Rust, and the rest of the platforms that ARE attempting to be successful
Did Xojo, let us down? of course it has, and we have well documented what they did wrong, what they should have down, and the fact the Geoffs EGO is destroying the product. And while the may have been part of the reason this site was created, it should be the reason that this site goes on.
I’d agree
it just isnt happening though
what ever you will decide, it is (was?) a place still to see some well known faces of the xojo community I used to know
I had joined because I do cross platform development, and seeing discussion on it that didn’t exclusively center around tailwind + electron being the only solution was refreshing.
Wanting to post a new topic, i do look at the welcome message to determine if it’s appropriate for the forum. Perhaps the welcome message can be less restrictive, or better defined for what is desired here?
If you have a topic thats about x-platform development, heck development in general, post it
We really DONT have a lot of borders & boundaries (as you might have noticed)
Maybe i just have forum PTSD.
I’ll be less restrictive.
Oh, that said, can we have a game development category, since at least 2 of us are actively doing that?
Hi Dave,
Normally we completely disagree with each other. However, this time I agree completely with you. Thank you for your positive support.
Together with you, I wish this If Not Nill website continues. It is much more interesting than the TOF forum.
Please Norman, keep this website open. It is always an interesting read and there are many skilled and experienced people here.
Chris
Already exists
the short list just cant show them all
ahem
I knew that. Yep. Knew that the whoooole time. Yep.
For me and our uses, Xojo (combined with MBS) is still extremely useful for little and medium productivity tools. We safe hours of work with it. I know Xojo since around 1997 and i think it is in the best shape than ever. It got so much faster last year thanks to the input from Christian (MBS).
And now it got preemptive threads, which are complex, of course, but soo powerful.
But i’m no full time programmer…
I would miss this place, too.
