I didn’t realize there was an update until you said this. Thanks for the unintentional heads up!
Hello Norman,
I log into your site at least weekly. Most to see what’s going on following the week summary. I have also posted a question or three too and had received great responses.
It would be a shame for this forum to close. I do appreciate your efforts!
Tim
I enjoy hanging with mostly senior devs and consultants and entrepreneurs who seem mostly not into fads. That’s not really that easy to find online.
I am hampered by being heads-down on a busy full time consulting gig involving proprietary stuff that I can’t really talk all that much about. There are a few things I could write about but then it’s down to time. I put in 40 hour weeks, have gotten drafted into being on my HOA board, have a handicapped step son we’re trying to take care of and get squared away before we’re too old & decrepit. This doesn’t equate to me not enjoying the site, though. It just means I don’t participate like I might wish.
I do think that tutorials take a lot of effort to prepare and you’re not going to get commensurate engagement outside one of the larger sites. That can be disappointing but I still think just hanging out and remarking on trends in the industry and such is still valuable. And I enjoy Dave’s bouncing ideas off us a great deal, even though I am not a game developer.
All that said … I will try to put more cogitation into starting a thread now and then. I do have design decisions I weigh, that I can talk about with violating NDAs at times, and I would love other’s reactions and inputs. In fact an idea just occurred to me, I’ll give that a whirl.
The point is that here people are not searching for Xojo Help. But often for Alternatives. And the entire point is that we as community should find one Alternative for all stuffs people can do with One Programming Language and that’s it. Do we have one? Yes, a few, C# in most cases, Java, Kotlin and C++ (C++ only with QT or WX-Widgets). That is the simple part of it. Without that we will have Tutorials for hundrets of stuffs which are not an Alternative for Xojo. Possibly for single Persons but not for all stuffs you can do with Xojo.
So there is morer needed than only a few tutorials. That’s the point. There is real help needed, assistance. A few people migrated to Java for example. Every one of them needed tons of help. And for that you’ll need time. A single person can not carry that on his shoulders. It needs more. And I believe it would be possible to get to this point here.
I’ve been here less recently due to a big project but I’ve found this community invaluable as I was moving away from Xojo. I’d definitely miss the place if it was gone.
Thanks to all of those who contribute and to Norm for keeping INN up and running .
I write games just for fun, mostly old school style without frameworks and libraries. Nintendo probably would not hire me but… ;D
I hope this forum stays!
Nintendo would send you a C&D for making a platformer.
Do what makes you happy.
If it goes nowhere you had fun, but nothing goes anywhere without a start.
But I like the aesthetic of what you made there.

I think I’ll just let INN be the way it is for now
Thanks for all the responses
