Lost that advantage over half a decade ago. Even between releases it breaks code all the time. Nothing RAD about that. Especially when talking cross platform, Xojo lost a lot of its RAD feathers. (to) many things have to be resolved with conditional compiling and declares when one does some serious programming.
The downfall started when they introduced the (half-baked) ‘other than desktop’ platforms. Web and iOS are still not mature enough for professional use. And will Android ever see the daylight or are they working on their fifth rewrite? Duke Nukem: Forever… What a humongous waste of time and resources.
sigh… when talking about xojo… my post was set to hidden right now after saying that xojo implelemtation of css is - well - special. Come on, this is ridiculous, almost feeling like in Russia… shall I expect a trillion year ban next time or what?
Nowadays, you should always take a screenshot before posting something on the Xojo forum, as you never know what you may have done wrong and valid information for others may be lost. Truly sad…
Not sure if a moderator could but an admin certainly could edit a persons post
Dont know if that has been done but since INN also uses the same software I can say that ability exists
My biggest concern with Xojo is how much attention they put on changing the language, changing the control names (and event name), changing the language reference, all the while the capabilities of the product have continued to fall behind, bugs that affect the enthusiast users have lingered on and on.
I get that a large number of Xojo users are not looking to publish highly polished platform specific applications, and those that are; are expensive to retain as they want/need features, fixes which take considerable time to implement. This is not just limited to Xojo, I see a great number of companies also treat their enthusiast customers this way, I guess on a spreadsheet it makes sense.
I think we’re witnessing a brain drain, as the enthusiasts leave in anger and frustration, they no longer contribute to the product via feedback or assistance in the forums. Leaving the inexperienced hanging, and without pressure for the company to actually do better, they don’t, the bar never raises on it’s capabilities. The inexperienced then become frustrated and angry as they reach the limits of the tool, run into the same unresolved issues and semi-simple questions can’t be answered.
While resorting to Google, shows how it can be done in other tools.
That’s my fear for Xojo going forwards. I honestly hope that Xojo has a long term plan to retain talent, because IMHO without it, they’re going to struggle and may not survive. I have friends in Apple who feel this exact same way about Apple at the moment.
Wow, I wonder why this post isn’t marked as offending by anyone. Seems worse than TomasJ’s one. Guess it is harder to report your own answer as offending being the MVP…
Exactly my point! The reason I posted this was to illustrate the whole hypocrisy of the Xojo MVP policing system. No criticism or a tongue in cheek remark is allowed on the Xojo forum, except if you are an MVP, then it is no problem at all if you do not adhere to that standard.
I was told by one of the Xojo engineers (he was half joking) years ago that developers like me (i.e. professional) were their biggest nightmare because we expected them to fix bugs and add real features. That was 12(ish) years ago. I don’t see the mentality as having changed much since.
