Xojo Pricing Changes

Seems like just closing reports JUST to bring the counts down

Just closing issues makes Xojo more expensive since you end up with less value.

It’s like a candle burning at both ends. One end are the price hikes. The other end are bugs swept under the carpet.

Maybe this is all a prelude to a near end? Spicing up the sales and falsifying the bug mountain for an upcoming due diligence to sell the company? No idea who would be interested in giving any money at all for such outdated technology…

I thought initially that it was JUST old feature requests that maybe didnt apply any more

However it seems to be bug reports and feature requests

It seems a lot like the criteria is “close everything that is X many years old”

Regardless of whether they still apply or not

Like I’d put in a request to remove the width restriction on the Inspector
closed
That would still be useful
Maybe same for the Navigator
Both closed and marked with the "reopen this if you think its still needed’

The most people do not take care of this, let’s make a bet about it. They have no Idea what they are doing to their users wsith this.

Gotta admit that I’m confused by this strategy. They’ve focused so heavily on the ‘citizen developer’ in the last 10 years and now they’re giving them the middle finger? It just makes no sense. They shit on the pro developers which led to an exodus and now they’re shitting on their small developers. The last one in the building turn off the lights.

I doubt that they will take care about the license servers and the download servers. That will be a BIG problem

And Alyssa closed the thread after someone said they would not renew Pro.

It’s a nonsense how those threads are closed so easily, without any explanation.
It would be nice if every of those threads, once closed, had another one re-created (either by the same user that opened the original one, or another user), until Xojo either gives up, gets more verbose, or bans too many users.

I have been a Xojo user since 1999 (I think). Wonder how much money I have spent? I am now 80 years old. I have tried to read the Swift manual twice and didn’t get very far. I considered Xojo would be my brain exercise until I was gone. Looks like I will renew my Lite license for two years and then that will be it.

And there’s a new thread. Marius is about to get banned. That’s what they did to me for asking pretty much the same thing.

I posted, they deleted. Repeated that three times. But they never told me they deleted it til after the fact. But came down to calling truth to power like Marius just did

What are you expecting. When people are not renewwing their PRO license they may have a problem. Also with all the other licenses. The entire problem is: there are enough options to write and publish Software on all platforms. And so it will be their end of the Story. I guess they are not even getting that this is a bit too much for many users. And so it will cost them another users. And I still believe: it will cost many new users which are considering that they will have to pay so much money. See it so: Buying IntelliJ is cheaper than Xojo. Even if you choose as a personal License (not a company) the all products pack:

289,- Bucks for the PRO IDE. 100 Bucks a year for AI Power powered by Jetbrains or, if you want, by Github CoPilot. Many languages including JavaScript, Java, Kotlin, C, C++, Python, GO, C#, RUST and PHP and the DataGrip IDE and many stuffs more. Third year 173,- per year. Or use only the CE Version available for Java, Kotlin, C and C++ (CLion, without costs when not used for commercial applications), Python, C# which you can use free when not used for commercial products (RIDER IDE), RUST (free when not used for commercial Devewlopment (RustRover)), WebStorm when not used for commercial Development. Also available is NetBeans for Java and C++ Development, Eclipse for Java, C++, Python, PHP and many more.

Netbeans is coming up with a free UI Designer for Java Swing, for IntelliJ it would cost 30,- per year for JFromDesigner. Nothing to die while too much money. With many languages you can build Web, mobile and All Platform Desktop. There is no real need for Xojo. Only for old projects. Go on, learn a new language and start programming in a new comfort. Or use, when on Mac only, Swift and Swift UI. No problem.

So wining about the IDE pricing will not help anybody. Well, it will cost only lifetime. And this decision they make possibly faster. With a big amount of concurrent possibilities to reach the targets.

There may be people which don’t want to change the language like Tom. I can understand that completely. No question. With 80 years it will become a problem learning a complete new language and ecosystem. But looking on the ecosystems of languages like Python, Java, Kotlin, C++, C# and many more I can say: there is nothing you can’t do with this languages. Especially Desktop should not be a real problem.

And yes, languages like Java or also C# or C++ coming up with {} and ;. But that is readable and fast to learn. While you use keywords in BASIC like end if, NEXT and more you have this constructions in the same way but with {}. For example:

if(a<b){
do something;
}

if the same like

if a>b then

do something

end if

There is no real difference. But learning a new language would open the door to ecosystems and also language worlds far away from that you are used to with Xojo. More speed (much more), extended Threading which is simple, more platforms and more security that your application will be alive tomorrow.

I have apps outside which are written before twentyfive years. With Java AWT. Later changed the GUI framework to Swing with a few codechanges. Still running. Today compiled with Java 24. With simple changes. Nothing like Xojo’s API changes.

Change to a language which helps you developing and comes up without hundrets of workarounds. It will lower your costs and will help you to write better Apps.

Free speech like in Russia

It is free speach like it was in Nazi Germany and Stalins Russia. Okay, Putin is not that far away. But they had the same attitude to behave with critics. Kill them before they become too public.

If Xojo does not want us to speak, we should grant their wish. I know many here cannot post in their forum, so great… you’re doing your part I guess. Those of us that are still allowed, should refrain from participating.

Participating in this way could bring you problems in Xojo environment. I had to listen to this a few times while I wrote here and they looked at it. So yes, they read this forum definitely.

I know they do.

Theyd eventually just ban that user

There has been a noticeable withdrawal of participation by a lot of seasoned members

Never used to be able to keep up if you missed a few hours

Now I can be away for days and easily catch up
