good thing js and tauri and wasm are cheap as free.
and with dotnet being opensource, Xojo never fixing any bugs, Xojo really has zero reason to exist.
Same at livecode.

Dana just locked a second thread on TOF–and a third got opened. She is going to be busy. I liked one comment that compared them to how Broadcom is (deliberately?) alienating VMWare users, especially small ones (citizen developers, anyone?)
She is back to Xojo?
Brain fart. Alyssa. ![]()
when I saw this mail today, the hefty price bump (for what?) my first impoulse was to check, if it is already here ![]()
Is this really “milking”? To me this looks desperated. He is fightning against a decline and has chosen the spiral down to the bottom without addressing the technological problems at all.
I’m wondering…
[ Prior to the announcement ]
My Web Licence was USD $399
[ Before August 4 ]
I renew now for USD $399
[ My next renewal ]
then in 12 months (if I remain on auto renewal)
New Price USD $499
Discount 20%
New Adjusted Price USD $399.20
Effective Price Increase $0.20…
I’m thinking 20 cents makes zero difference, but increasing the punishment for toggling off “auto-renewal” makes a world of difference to revenue stability and to customer influence.
After all, in tight economic times, delaying renewal is common sense 101 for developers.
After all, delaying renewal is for many the only form of silent protest when waiting for a feature to mature or a bug to be fixed, knowing you could always wait half-a-cycle and re-connect during the next 20% off sale.
It’s not about the increase…it’s all about the subscription stickiness.
God bless the forsaken citizen developers! with their shattered dreams.
“Lite” licences should have always been a low monthly subscription (of say USD $19.99-$29.99 per month). The citizens avoid “real” investment, but being “Lite” is only meant to be short term stepping stone to a commercial licence (if the platform proves to be accessible/valuable to them). If the hapless citizen accidentally lingers on the monthly subscription they end up paying 80% or so of the next licence level. Everyone wins!
Kind regards, Andrew
Markus, they don’t hate their Customers. But when the outcome is sinking they need to do something. If Toyota registers that they start with new models and many, many new and innovative features. When Xojo registers it they start increasing their prices. At the end the account has to be filled for the feature of Xojo. I remember all the people here dreaming about open sourcing to rescue the product. Let me say it so: apples pricing decreases on Desktop while Xojo pricing increases on all platforms.
Dear me - your Logic is atrocious. You want Xojo to offer a Lite license at $240-360 per year? As subscription? Which would mean no longer perpetual? Are you insane? You are worse than Geoff!
I think Christophe hit the nail on the head:
You have to admit it. The moment is now perfect for Xojo Inc to raise the price and scrap Lite version.
Apple has made a big change for macOS (UI wise). If you want to continue with Xojo for macOS, you will almost certainly have to buy a new licence to make this big change. Some will call this a smart move, others a dirty move.
I am believing that they will come up also with a pure subscription model: pay to use every year. That’s how it smells at least.
Ha-ha Markus, that’s a bit harsh, you made me laugh though.
The pricing model and inclusions have never been right.
I should have prefaced my statement by saying that if they have already decided that Lite is not financially viable, then they do need a stepping stone between “nothing” and the $499 licence which few citizen devs could justify spending.
Shame you missed my main point about auto-renewal stickiness.
Kind regards, Andrew
Don’t you mean Alyssa? IIRC Dana left, or has she come back?
You won’t… I’ve made apps from Xojo 2021 adopt Liquid Glass, it ain’t pretty (Liquid Glass in general), but it works. You do need App Wrapper however ![]()
ROFL did you mean USD $9.99 ???
The “Discount” is BS, Im really astonished of how many people fall for it.
The “license” is just to have access to new releases for one year… if you just wait to renew until the next release instead of purchasing it right away, those 3 monts will give you an extra release that is like a 25%… In years with 3 or 2 releases even more.
Yes, as I’d previously replied above, I meant Alyssa ![]()
Nothing has really changed except now bugs are more expensive.
Geoff is really getting into dropping stuff. First Web 1.0 now Lite.
Just now, 2 more cases closed, they are really serious about reducing the open cases

Auto close issues, ban users, lock forum threads, raise prices!
Hal, you are misunderstanding. You are making a mixup. You are now exclusively more Bugs for more Bucks. That’s the reason why. Look into the Bugtracker.
Alyssa
not Dana
small but important distinction
Not this time, they are really comited!
All this cases are being closed manually ![]()
