the MsgBox is never displayed, logging shows that everything builds up fine, but on displaying the MsgBox is when it crashes.

I’d thought I’d seen a report in Issues about Ventura & MsgBox but I cant find one

I just looked at the recent crash reports and it’s a NSException, which means that Xojo is doing something wrong in their framework which causes the MsgBox to crash

This isn’t even necessarily a dig on the tester, he is probably doing the work of 10 people from what I’ve come to understand since.

They are understaffed at every position related to dev & QA

Bugs should IMHO always take higher priority
Yes I get why they want to put features in every release
I disagree that EVERY release needs new features but thats their belief
Basically

People wont buy new versions because of bug fixes

and

Bug fixes dont make for good press releases

BUT - as far as I know they’ve NEVER tried doing this so its just an ingrained belief - not something they’ve ever seen actually happen; or not

Since the differences are relatively small, the programming languages are only listed (in alphabetical order).

It is still there. They may begin to realise what they have lost.
When starting evaluating Xojo in 2021 there was still an active forum with lots of contributions from professional and experienced developers. Coming from Claris’ clinically dead forum I found it quite inspiring and refreshing. This has slowed to a trickle now and there isn’t much going on.

Last I head there was not much going on there… but that was awhile go…

If true that there is where there is a lot of “pro” discussion, it’s not good for Xojo, as it definitely does not help to get new customers, and that includes pros that don’t need all the platforms and so not interested in a Pro license.

oh, I was kidding of course, or at least trying hard to be funny. I thought that was clear from my statement, which is as absurd as saying the earth is a square.

Didn’t we learn from the XDC that Xojo is doing really well in terms of licensing? I have my doubts. Although there are a few new users in TOF (also Pros (licensing-wise) ), but even the latter group seems to find stumbling blocks quite quickly. That took IMHO a lot longer 15 years ago.

That certainly seemed to be the claim - up 10% or something (with no baseline its a useless claim)

Well I no longer leave a tab up for TOF and so if you’re not logged in for a few days you get an email summarizing what you’re missing. Today’s summary:

*Xojo 2022.3.2 carshing on macOS 13.3.1 (a)
*Timer infos
*SelectSQL SELECT wrong syntax
*Xojo3D not working
*MsSQL not work with national letter in WebApp

So at least 3 out of 5 are bug threads. As a bonus, Kem Tekinay has this sage advice:

“I think if you set your expectations now, you inevitably will be disappointed, And just because something isn’t discussed, or even mentioned, during XDC, does not mean it’s not in progress.”

(did he mean set your expectations low??)

Gavin Smith: “I’m not sure that I want “surprises” anymore. I’m too old for surprises! I’d happily just hear updates of items on the Roadmap.”

So Xojo wants me to visit the site to see the bugs, comments by a user who just wants progress on the roadmap already, and to be admonished to keep up hope because if I don’t then it’s my own fault that things aren’t going well.

Nah … I think I’ll just go have a root canal, it would be more fun.

Ouch !

So I must retract blaming Xojo. I’ve come across NSException in the Xojo framework before, normally replacing the broken framework with declares solves it. However this time, it wasn’t Xojo’s fault.

Trying to display a new window while the application is within a NSAnimationContext group is fatal. Which includes displaying a NSAlert because of a detected error.

No he seems to have really meant “dont set your expectations before the conference”
So go to a conference expecting NOTHING and you will be pleasantly surprised by all the amazing stuff !
But if you go hoping to hear Android will be shipping, and all the bugs have been crushed you will be disappointed

I’m sure a lot of people would like to hear about these as some have been there for ages and there areas to be little to no movement. No progress update. No apparent work being done.
Xojo is the only company I know of where the “roadmap” is aspirational - not work in progress.
