Xojo Hmmmm šŸ¤”

On the same topic: I don’t think it is the fault or omission of individual developers that Xojo is notoriously feature-incomplete in many aspects. There is a clear strategy to cover a lot of different fields in order to scavenge customers who may need the functionality and to style Xojo as a one stop shop for software development. This is not possible due to a substantial lack of manpower. I assume that Xojo developers are well ware of this organisational shortcoming. If they are aware of it, they should also be aware that their employer fails their paying customers by design. It all devolved into a marketing trick show and a one man vanity project. I wouldn’t have my name tagged to this.

This is written there:

Constructive comments are, as always, welcome, but please try to keep this on-topic and free from attacks or rants.

So they feel attacked because someone said there’s no feature-complete stuff in Xojo since 3 years?! I’m sorry for them, but that’s just truth.

I always wrote truths I. Xojo forum. If Tim is not careful he will also get banned. That’s their method.

Getting banned from TOF can be considered as a distinction.

never been… even working with the IDE on ā€œnormalā€ Linux is quite impossible

In fairness, Tim did get a little personal, with a remark about not having confidence in the people involved with the framework. And there are some good and talented people on that team. Had he instead said ā€œmanagementā€, that would have been much better.

That was a bit personal, indeed. Even Xavier who was a concerned person in his quality of member of the Xojo dev team did not react with a menace. Certain MVPs react like a Palov’s dog to any critical remark about Xojo Inc and it’s people.

Had he instead said ā€œmanagementā€,

We know from the past that certain MVPs react even more aggressive and offer retaliation between the lines. Being critical of the management’s decisions and actions is considered a lĆØse majestĆ© in Xojo land.

The message to a frustrated paying customer is ā€˜suck it up and learn to live with it, or we’ll show you the door’.

Yes, I have seen the MVPs assume the ā€œhatchet manā€ role. Then other MVPs (as well as actual Xojo management, who are mostly silent) pile on with the ā€œlikesā€.

I have seen a few unsavory things in my professional life. Mobbing customers like in TOF was new to me.

Reading over the thread, it sounded like charts behave differently on Desktop, Mobile, and Web. Then Tim P pointed that out and was spanked.

So if charts do behave differently, Tim was yelled at for pointing out behavior differences for something that is supposed to work the exact same way.

Friggin insane…

Well, for the the web they just grab an existing one: https://www.chartjs.org/

But for the other platforms, looks like it is just another half baked canvas custom control…

So Tim P was correct about the Targets not being feature complete for charts which means not cross platform.

Wow…

Web1 was not really cross platform, you could share some code from desktop but, thats all.

Web2 is even worse, with no control arrays and less events you have to redesing all the UI logic.

So, being different and less capable was expected.

And some how pointing that out is the sin ???

shoot always the messenger… then the problem is solved… not…

The two things that are truly cross-platform in Xojo and available for all targets are the bugs and the error-riddled documentation.

They can postpone reality only for a while…

For him that would be / could be a dangerous situation. He relies on Xojo Customers with his main product. That kills all chances for business for him possibly. I would be - in his situation - careful or innovative and taking care that I am writing another product not to be in a dangerous situation.

Imagine Xojo were a car manufacturer
If you raised legitimate issues that can be demonstrated you really think Ford, Chevrolet, etc would ban you from talking about their product ?
They’d make EVERY effort to make sure your concerns were addressed
I know people who have had their vehicles replaced with brand new ones because of issues

Xojo ?
Not in the same league as that sort of customer focus
