Xojo developer gatherings

Maybe when someone makes your personal / private conversation public?

Oh, forgot - according to the lot here personal messages aren’t private and can be published because …? An admin can read them anyway (but shouldn’t)? Because you don’t like the sender? Because you don’t like the sender’s tone?

So it’s ok to simply trample on his rights?

Ah, forgot - he has no rights. ā€œIt’s Norman’s forum and he can do what he wantsā€.

Hmmm …

But INN is allegedly so very different from TOF … has Geoff ever made personal communication private?

If Norman had said: ā€œMy apologies. I made a mistake and have removed the screenshots - please disregard what was said thereā€ then I would have said he did the right thing and man’d up to his responsibility - and that deserves respect, especially if he’d apologised to XojoPro for it.

But that lynch mob mentality on display here is unbelievable.

We are far away from a Lynch mob. And again: if you would not ask and say there is no difference that would not be happened. I was asking Norman to delete the screenshots cause of privacy and that’s it. I can’t see a lynchmob.

Gentlefolk, please be civil to one another. We’re all people, we’ve all gone through hardships of some sort in recent years.

So can we please put down our swords, pass the marshmellows and chill the fuck out?

Besides… I just saw Xojo is offering a 50% discount on registration for their next event…

haha yeah should I go? Okay that was a declaratory question. I guess they don’t want to see me there but 50% is much. For active Xojo Programmers it can be good to know the people around and behind.

Gee. After Markus ranting off in my ā€œhelloā€ thread, I finally found this one where it all started.

My impression: XojoPro was in a bad mood and then felt attacked (not realizing he did the same in a way) and then exploded. Can happen to anyone, depending on what triggers you. Giving him a time-out without banning him is a fair response, IMO. Especially, to keep the forum civil.

No one should dismiss other people like that, even if one thinks they’re making pointless comments. If you think like that, write them a private message, instead of exposing them publically as an idiot. That’s bad etiquette and getting chastised for that is common practise in most forums and not censoring.

Markus assessment of the situation is similar. I think he overreacted and then started feeling attacked and keeping to justify himself. That only keeps on escalating, which isn’t doing anyone a service. And I would like to ask both Thorsten and Markus not to keep discussing this in unrelated threads, too. One playground is enough.

I did go to Nashville, and it was a genuine pleasure to meet the team (and maybe a few of those reading here.) As I’ve told Sam in our own conversation, I’ve used RB/RS/Xojo since Day One, and it was the first time I’d personally met another human who did.

There is more history with Xojo Pro than just that thread…

BTW Welcome… Seeing you here got me thinking…

I wonder what the average length of time forepeople being involved with RB/RS/XOJO users here… I know it’s been over 20 years for me.

I think it’s been about 24 for me. I can remember exactly where I was when I read a review of REALBasic 1.0, but I don’t recall what year it was.

Was still in school and trying to learn CodeWarrior to make Mac apps and not enjoying the experience. The school had Windows machines and VB, which I thought was way better than CW. I had even written to Microsoft asking for them to bring VB to the Mac.

Imagine if I’d not seen the review for REALBasic and instead actually got to grips with CW, then Xcode. I’d only be angry at Apple for being myopic, not Apple and Xojo
