Well, at least it isn’t the shortest video anymore. Of course the ‘never so much users, huge forum increase, etc…’ BS can be skipped as it isn’t backed by any numbers and the overall perception is definitely the opposite. But still, it’s an effort.
Kudos for the effort, but it doesn’t reassure me that Xojo or Xojo Inc has a future or should be in my future. Shame as I thought it could up until a few weeks ago.
Just a quibble, but in the opening history section, he could have mentioned Andrew Barry.
Andrew Barry… no… no … GEOFF did it all! His freaking ego won’t allow any less…
Just like Bill Gates wrote the original MS-DOS
REALbasic was originally called CrossBasic, and the first version was developed by an Australian, Andrew Barry.
Well, my comment was tongue-in-cheek, without animus. My own personal communication with Geoff has been limited, but positive. But yeah…I first discovered RB when Andrew was cranking out the 1.0 betas, and at the time he was the voice of the company. Later, Andrew started another “basic” project, but that disappeared. I often wonder what he is doing now.
Last I ever knew I think he worked for Oracle
Well, part II definitely felt like a typical keynote. Lots of generalities and no specifics.
Brilliant, once again a knee jerk reaction to the cluster truck that was the first effort. Deja Vu anyone? It’s like they have one playbook and the use it for everything, development, oopsie, try this one instead, keynote, oopsie, try this one instead. I’d laugh at it if it weren’t so sad. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a keynote 1.1 before, you couldn’t make this stuff up.
Feels like they’re not even trying to think about what their users really need out of the product or the videos.
Yeah, it feels like a lack of focus. But that’s from someone on the outside looking in. Who knows what’s really going on.
Possibly it shows how bad the situation really is. To less people for too many Jobs to have to get done and too less knowledge to do all the jobs and a too hard on one person focused development policy. That is always dangerous. Coming to that you may see many new features but never a real reliability. Has not to do that they not want. but they can’t see that. And also they can’t realize what the customers really needing. While they are to isolated in their own group and in defending their policy and their decisions.
For anyone who doesn’t get the Xojo Newsletter, I see the link for the Keynote is the link to the second one, not the first…
not that either one is worth investing time in
There is that…
I see the links has a tracking URL
of course
they want the stats just like anyone else does
https://www.youtube.com/c/XojoInc/videos
or just download them using one of the YouTube downloaders and skip the tracking etc
It looks like the fallout of the Xojo XDC Anywhere non-event is bigger than anticipated looking at the reactions (or better, the lack of) on the Xojo Developer Retreat Updates - Conferences - Xojo Programming Forum post.
Except for one lonely guy, who happens to live 40 miles of the event, nobody outside the Xojo employee/MVP circle is ‘really looking forward to the Xojo Developer Retreat’.
I suppose that happens when you organize something and have absolutely nothing to show for…
What do they expect when Pros are no longer the target market??? They are the ones who can afford going, are the ones capable of presenting, and are the ones with an interest in more than basic information.
So what exactly is left?
Well done, Geoff, well done …
I see 3 but still …
Maybe they should name it XDC Anyhow
I see only Tom Dixon not directly linked to Xojo (employee or MVP).
