WOHOO! "New" Xojo Roadmap!

You can’t really expect bug fixes listed in a roadmap.

Specific ones - not usually unless they are significant ones like the web memory leak
Then - why not ?
That might help set expectations better than a roadmap which really is just a list of new features that seems to be “these are the highest priority items”

Wouldn’t encrypting modules take care of packaging for that type of usage?

Well you should spend some time in FileMaker world - talk about glacial. Xojo delivered a substantial upgrade to the iOS platform recently - compared to other multi-platform tools I find it quite feature complete. Try using LiveCode to develop an iOS or Android app - it’s almost impossible. What’s funny is that FileMaker have licensed LiveCode to become the Android client for their product.

FTC had dozens of classes and modules (maybe close to 75? - been a while since I’ve looked at it). We started a rewrite and put it all in a single namespace (module) but then that gets problematic with text projects and external items. The plugin would be more convenient but then again, support would higher because then people ask some pretty dumb questions when they can’t access the source.

FM is stable as hell
Not saying its perfect - far from it as a refugee from it probably 20+ years ago

I hope you enjoy Xojo - I really do

FM has had real issues with stability recently - the forums are awash with issues and crashes.

Xojo mostly shuts down those kinds of threads and complaints on the forums
So you wont see many of them there that last too long

Its why this forum even exists

There are some

This table speaks volume. Thanks for putting that together.

We can only hope. Been there now a few times. I would think the likelihood of it not becoming a shot storm is very very low. Past behavior being a great predictor of future behavior.

Or worse for Xojo
People have just stopped and moved on ?
We have no idea how many of those there are but I 'm pretty sure its a non-zero number

I’ve moved to PHP. I just can’t rely on Xojo Web Apps and lack of communication regarding progress. It’s that simple. All for the better now, but it was painful.

who the feck got up in the morning and started a campaign to do this? has anyone heard anything about anyone wanting this…
completely bizarre

Please read the text above the roadmap:

“The order in which we expect features to ship may change as features get closer to completion.”

As we saw some features nearing completion we were able to update the Roadmap to give you a clearer picture of what’s coming and in what order. But don’t forget that multiple features often ship in a single release.

Which begs the question: how (why?) did Android make it to #1 in the first place? If what Dana says is true then they must have expected to ship it next.

In which case Android is no longer expected to ship in the next release - otherwise there would be no need to move it down.

And now Dana posted:

We always have multiple projects underway at any given time. Some of them are small projects that might only take a few weeks or months, some are very large and might take years such as Android (or Web 2.0). Because smaller projects typically reach completion faster than larger projects, they will periodically jump ahead of larger projects on a roadmap.

Could someone ask her why then Android was at #1 for quite some time?

I’m starting to think it was a ploy to get people to think Android is coming next and renew their license.

:man_shrugging:
I can see some clients wanting something like this
but that many that this should be top of the road map ?

Yeah, I can picture a couple of fanboys on TOF that seem to have XOJO’s ear.

If you talk nice they listen
If not you get told you’re irrational

Just because your bubble doesn’t want this doesn’t mean some of us as iOS developers don’t.

Thank you for your feedback Christian,

I think your assertion as an historic assessment of Xojo Web is correct.

The only “new” Web feature in 2021-R1 is WebLocation, which should arguably have been added a long time ago to the WebMapLocation class first released in 2011-R2 . As you say, small steps (that small step took ten years).

2021-R1 contains 40 bug fixes for Web 2.0, moving Web 2.0 from a mistakenly released Alpha to a genuine Beta version of the software.

I assume 2021-R2 will address a similar level of bugs as 2021-R1, and if 2021-R2 addresses the performance and memory issues (as described in Alain’s reply) then Web 2.0 may become a genuine public release candidate. Yet, according to the roadmap Web 2.0 has been delivered (queue the mission accomplished memes).

That said, I wouldn’t have posted if I didn’t care about the success of the platform - and yet I fear Xojo’s communication of their roadmaps will simple encourage more long-term developers to move on.

What I neglected to place on my representation of Xojo’s Roadmap was a row to describe the perceived quality of the current release. I have ammended the table below to reflect this.

Kind regards, Andrew

Do not forget that you can get a warning even for that what you write outside the forum. When they wrote me why I am banned they told me beside the ranting you where writing in the same wise in other places. That’s the way to a 1000 years ban
