When not behind the keyboard... hobbies

Rarely do I work outside
Not that I dont have the room but I’d have to drag all my monitors & everything out there
Its not practical

thats a simple problem to solve… just have all your monitors facing out towards the windows then bring your wireless keyboard / mouse to the outside

My office is on the second floor
My deck it on the first

get bigger monitors, and a bluetooth extender

Even with that there’s no line of sight from the second floor to the deck outside
So I guess I’ll just have to sotp work if I go outside & sit on the deck
Speaking of which … its a nice spring day here I might just have to go have a beer on the deck

geez Norm… ever hear of a periscope? LOL

Seriously: don’t have your computer so that you can look outside. I had a ton of headaches. After my physical therapist did a house call he had me change the desk 90 degrees. My headaches were better immediately.

Lights are off
Windows are covered with nearly 100% light blocking drapes
Monitors brightness turned way down

My wife says I work in a cave
And I do not end up with splitting headaches at the end of the day

Terrible. I need daylight to live and work.

At Opel moving offices was a sort of a sport. In general I moved offices every 3 years. There was only one office I really hated. That was the one with only a bit daylight.

norm, what you are describing reminds me of a radiologist darkroom.

only difference here is the back lighting… but still fits the setup.
radiology-room-layout-with blue-lighting

Very much like that

My optometrist recommended I do this because of the severe eye strain headaches I would have by the end of the day
Its been about 3 years now and I’ve not had one since and life is SO much better

My grilfriend insists in opening all the curtains in my home office and keeps suggesting I should move my desk so I can see the nice view outside while I work. Having the curtains open gives me a headache due to the glare on the monitors. She also keeps turning my magic mouse upside down, I mean with the apple on top, she seems to like it like that LOL.

Thats exactly what my wife does
I’ve just gotten to the point I let her open them and when she leaves my office I go close them again so my head doesnt hurt at the end of the day

Beat me to it! @npalardy, your office sounds exactly like mine!

I’m used to working in the gloom as a radiologist and since I now work remotely from home it’s just kind of stuck with me. Also, I’ve got a number of annoying floaters in my eyes (not retinal detachments - had them checked!) and they’re more conspicuous in bright light hence why I use macOS dark mode all the time.

I wish that was my only fault

what your wife says they are doesnt count
