Proximally, Trump is in power because well less than 50% of citizens voted him in (something like a third) but the combination of non-voters, people desperate to “send a message”, etc., plus our stupid winner-take-all Electoral College system put him over the top. So in a meta sense I suppose America “wanted him” in a FAFO sort of way, and the European criticism that the world is at the mercy of 40,000 rural voters in Wisconsin every four years is totally valid.
What Trump really represents IMO is generations of erosion in income equality and the rule of law reaching a tipping point. That nuance isn’t going to matter though – as Benjamin Franklin famously said after the Constitution was finished, “you have a republic – if you can keep it”, and clearly we can’t. So much for the “shining city upon a hill”.
In addition to @BKinney’s point, even if the GOP is utterly crushed in the ‘26 and ‘28 elections, if there is no Nuremberg-style justice meted out, and if we don’t catch up to the rest of the world in terms of human rights (including health care and education and forcing the wealthiest to pay their share of taxes) then it will be for naught because the core problem will remain and something worse than Trump is just an election or two away.
Other Western democracies should take us as a warning – they all have their own right ring extremists and their own income inequality and so on, and they had best address it and not assume it is safe.

There will not be a nuremberg style justice. I doubt that. There will not be anything. They even will not place thi moron in prison. What Trump is doing is mostly covered by the defender of the law. The Federal Court. And guess what, he placed the most of the deciding people there. So it will even need decades until they are dead. Cause nobody can remove them. And so also in other departments of this government. Thousands of people are believing in the MAGA story. It is the same story Hitlers NSDAP told in germany and it is the same form of propaganda. They even use the same rethorical style.Even the wordning (translated) isn’t that far away and the content is also nearly the same. Hitler had to argue after the contract of Versailles. This contract was pressing Germany down, no chance to earn money, no chance to feed all the people. The target was that Germany is until the eternity under control of the allies. From this point on Hitler promised to make Germany great again. He promised more income, better economy, more respect for Germany from all countries. At the end: he promised the same stuff like Trump does now.
The next element was the need of an enemy image. Hitlers enemies:the jews. Starting in “Mein Kampf” he described his antisemitism and also his antisemitic plannings of removing all jews from Germany. So the Nazis constructed also the wording “Untermensch” for everybody which was not born German with German heritage, translated to english the right wording is subhuman. Looking on the descriptions for jews it is also “Animals”, Not human, not people. And guess what? You’ll find this arguments also in Trumps propaganda.
What Hitler needed nest was the full control. So he put the political opposite people into “Konzentrationslager” means concentration camps. Trump said more than once that this should be done with many politicians from the democratic party.
Now Hitler needed his third element: total media control. Looking on the American media landscape even Washington Post is Trump friendly and takes care not to publish anything what could make Trump angry.
The last but also important element: the control of the people. This needs two things. One is a police which is doing exactly what he wants even if it is against the laws and which delivers every kind of informations. That was Hitlers Gestapo. Trump controls the FBI, the NSA and all other federal agencies. He has there the total control cause he switched the leaders to people which are doing what he wants. Like Hitler.
Now he needs Strom Troups which are doing what he wants to do the politics. Trumps enemies are immigrants. If legal or not, he believes that hispanics are not human.And sohe has ICE. His SA/SS. They are exactly working like this. SS members acted as policemen while the SS was declared as a police. ICE Agents (with 50 days education) doing that job. As you can see they do it as brutal as the SS was doing this.
All this elements are available, Trump done the same Job Hitler does. Not in the exact same form and not in the exact same consequence cause that is impossible to do in USA: but he reached the same result. ICE is allowed to search the house without court order. So what. Here we go.
And yes Bob, this is thesame construction the Hitler Regime had. But with one difference. In America they are not to stop. Trump is acting even against the federal ciurts when they give out decisions not fitting to his will like now with the tarrifs. A the end there will be a big problem for the USA.

But looking on it I can not see anything better in USA. They speak about freedom of speech. In truths it is so that people are revoked from traveling to America when they are doing critics against Trump in social media while this is “Terrorism”. And yes, also this is an element they had in Nazi Germany.
Let me say it so: I know exactly that I can get problems when I am saying anything against XI in China. But. As a Tourist I get only the advise not to do it. Doing it more often could result in problems in china. In America it makes immediately problems.
Here in germany I can say anything against the goverment. I can say that I am against the politics. I can say that this politics are bad. I can say that I believe and mean that our Chancellor is dump and not intelligent. No problem. Even if I say this and try to travel to germany. Nobody will notice that. But a moron like Trump or Vance can say we in Europe have no freedom of speech.
How to get out? I guess there is no way. If they impeach this moron and there will be a new government it could be even so that it is Vace after Trump. May be with Trump as Vice President.
I strongly believe that America is totally lost. And I do not have to be a prophet to tell you: the government and even many of the biggest Companies are active developing solutions not to need technologies from American Vendors. That will destroy the American Economy. And with every Solar System and every Windmill we get more far away from the need of importing Energy from USA. That is something he does not believe. He also can tell Germany is building new Cole power plants and nuclear power plants. It is not true at all. We build more Solar Systems and more Windmills. To get rid of this need of impoting.
When and if this moon starts to make even more pressure on Germany I have another news: if we decide to do fracking we have natural Gas for the next 40 till 60 years. Until then it should be so that we have enough regenerative energy not to be in the need of anything from America.
In short: Trump destroys the American Economy and that results in more and more poor people. They have no chance for education in America. And this is the right floor the harvest new people which are stupid enough to vote this kind of politics.

After Trump lost at supreme court he gota kick in his backside. Tarrifs aren’t allowed like he was doing it. Now we have 10% for everybody. That’s a problem for Trump cause he can’t do it like he was. His pressure instrument is lost. He can’t pres Europe to get greenland, he can’t press Canada to become part of the USA. All of this Instruments passed by. And his chance to get his tarrifs hrough the house is zero. So his politics he was doing until now is ending exactly at this place. Let’s see how he will work against supreme court.

Who would want to trvel to America today? I was cancelling all meetings in US I had in my calendar and changed all of this stuff to online meetings to be out of thi risk to become incarcerated by ICE. You can’t see it in front. The risk is there. If you are guilty or ot guilty: if they want to they catch you. So: no travel to USA. And that’s it. We added also the 15% tarriff to our products we send to USA. Trumps Money from American Companies and Citizens.

I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had with similar minded individuals that have some form of “what country are you thinking about moving to?” If it weren’t for living close to our only grand kid and being involved with his life we might have already moved. We already have friends that have moved to Costa Rica, Portugal, and Spain. Have another friend that’s a travel writer who conveniently has been in Mexico for well over 2 years.
I expect the upcoming No Kings day protests to be huge. Voting patterns in deep red states are showing encouraging signs of huge Democrat turn outs. I will say that it seems like the American electorate is looking around and saying ‘ef this’. It’s the 30% that say they love what’s going on that scares me.

It is scary, yes. And nobody can do anything against this moron. There is a simple rule: following the supreme court is needed. In all states around the world. If the supreme courts following the government it is goind the wrong direction. And with all the problems America produces it produces especially problems for one party in this game: for the USA. I never saw any state hurting itself this deep. Now there is a warning: European states shall not forward rules to buy European weapons insead of American ones. But this will be the situation and the right reaction on American Ideas of not protecting Nato states. America makes much money with selling weapons to European states. This will end up.
Looking on Systems like F35 we can see also a big problem for other Nato states: nobody knows if there is a kill switch. And if there is one: will Trump use it one day? That was one Part of the discussion in israeli knesset before buying F35. They have their own Software environment for it and their own weapons in use. European partners having American Software, American Cloud and American Weapons. That makes several problems. One of this problems is the fact that there could be a kill switch. Could is enough to decide that this isn’t the right System to buy.
So America wll loose much money. Okay, they have their tarriffs. But this is not a problem of Germany or other countries. At the end the American customers are paying this 15%. Not GERMANY nor any other state. This is money payed at the point of import.
The IDea behing it is that Trump believes that so they will have much more Money. But at the end: it will not end up like this. It will end up like it is even now: American customers paying that (even may be big and beautiul) Bill.
I have American colleagues at work. None of them is keen to move back to the US.

This may be a problem cause many people ran sway. And let me say it so: the most of them are not the ones without education. That could resuolt in a problem. And the ones living in germany are wondering how things are working here, One couple is living next to me. When the wife gave birth for twins she thought that a big bill will come. She was 14 days in Hospital. When they sended the bill she did not want to open it (they arrived in Germany three weeks before). 140 Euro she had to pay. The rest was covered.

If Donld Trump is sended directly from JESUS how comes that he uses weapons? Does God needs weapons? Reading the bible I would say no. I mean: Lot’s wife…salt. That trick Trump has to show me to proove.
The people behind Trump are believing in him like he is sended from God. What shall I say? He is not? How to bring up evidences that he is sended by an authority which is a point of believing and not something we would be able to say: here, the evidences, God exists and here: he signed with his son Jesus that they sended Trump.
Trump and his sponsors try to imply that Trump and his mission are directly part f the pln of God and so all of this is legitimated by the highest authority ever existing: God which is standing above everything. Nice try most peoplewould say. But there are many people in US which are believing exactly that.
The only reason Trump is there: while counting the elector votes in America is not working like in Germany. In America you win single states. Some of them have a lot of citizens. Some of them have a few. Every state has the same weight when President is elected. That leads to an interesting situation: you can have much more elector votes than another person but you re not becoming President while: you did not get the most states. That’s the better part in Germany: elector votes are counting. Nothing else. More elector votes: congratulations, you’re party wins, you are next chief. Simple and directly. Not in a chaos.
This system the USA have is old and not useful today. They should work on it. Most votes: congratulations, you are President.
