But the promise of it was along the lines of

That reality has et in, or set in long ago, that this was NOT the reality should have caused some readjustment. Or one might reasonably expect that it might have.
That hasn’t happened

I was looking at Vulkan to build an ui in go. It can compile web binaries too

You might consider Rust since its now also got basic runtime support right in the linux kernel which means it might grow in popularity very quickly
