Neither one is a strategy for long term sustainability or growth
but Xojo has a plan for succession should Geoff step off a curb in front of a truck
sadly I dont know that should the succession plan ever go into effect that it would radically change the product in any meaningful way
I think that day passed long ago for Xojo and remains the only reason it wasnt sold off during the tech boom to Adobe, MS, etc etc
But then I also dont know if they got any offers
Even if it would be sold off to MS or Adobe or what ever: it would be cute down until now from that companies. And at the other side: I guess there is no after Perlman strategy. Who should do that? I canāt see anybody spending a million to get that business. So hard and so sad it sounds. The world will turn around even after. There best thing he could do then: set it open Source that the people behind the code are not loosing their projects codes and not loosing their ability of compiling while the Software is not around anymore not even on Github.
Oh I dont think thereās any prospect it would be sold to any of those companies NOW
Maybe 20 years ago in the DotCom boom when silly valuations were being applied to everything
But that didnt happen
I honestly dont know if such a plan was ever discussed
Maybe it was
But I dont think the person(s) I think are to take over if Geoff passed will make any big changes
That IS a big assumption on my part about who I think is to take over
The problem will be that he wants a high price for this project. If nobody buys it and time passes by it is dead by self and thatās it, The problem is that then the people standing with their Code and their projects in the dark and can throw all of it away. That is one of the unnice differences. Look at MS what they do with Studio Mac. This shows how things can end up for Developers. I guesss that should be interesting enough for the developers to look out what they use and do.
Why I had to think about Xojo Inc when reading this article? Just replace some buzzwords with ālow codeā etc. and you can use this article as blueprint describing Xojo
P.S. By the way, this is how crap newsletters look like in professional enviroments⦠canāt understand how some hipsters spending hours of formating and designing their HTML and CSSā¦
Was having this exact conversation with another former Xojo developer this morning. Despite the decades of experience in Xojo we both are advocating for practically anything else. That is money Xojo left on the table theyāll never get back.
