As I explained in one of my post on their forum. I have expereicned progress, QuickTime to AVFoundation was progress, what Xojo did was detrimental regression.
Besides, didnāt Xojo make a statement about no longer running discounts, because they didnāt need to do so?
quite erratic, if there were recent buyers, they now are pissed off by this sales. But wait, if there were buyers, they would not need a 2nd sale within 3 months⦠android release seems not to be a trigger for new customers, eh?
It would be in 2017 possibly. But not in 2023 a. poor beta release. There is no rescue. Writing for Android is possible in so many ways. Java/Android Studio. Kolin/Android Studio. Java CodenameOne (Android/IOS) Java GluonMobile (Android/IOS) Kolin MultiplatformMobile (Android/IOS) Flutter/Dart (Android/IOS) to mention only a few possible ways. Android Studio is for free. CodenameOne until 8.5 MB Jar File Size is free. Kolin Multiplatform Mobile is free. JavaFX anyhow also. Only GluonMobile costs Money. So why the heck people should buy Xojo? The time passed by. They could have a great business with it. But too late is too late.
TBH Iām not sure that Web, iOS or Android has expanded the user base as much as hoped, desired or expected
Iāve been told that sales wavered slightly up slightly down but always right in around the exact same amount year after year after year for much of the lifetime of the company
That tells me that none of these new targets has significantly expanded the user base
Its maybe shifted it slightly but not grown it
Indeed
A serious focus on NOT growing the list of open bugs would probably do them a LOT of good
That number, as I reported, has done nothing but go up
And it continues to do so
Once upon a time, shortly after I joined, the chorus of "OMG BUGS ! BUGS ! BUGS ! " got so loud that Geoff made a commitment to improving quality but I cant find it because searching for āGeoff Perlman qualityā gives tons of strange results
I just recall it being made
Perhaps other long time users do as well
Now, despite the constant chorus of folks saying bugs ARE an issue they seem to have turned completely deaf ears
YES they fix a bunch in each release
But just look at what they are fixing - brand new controls with bugs ? WTF ?
If they werenāt created with that many bugs each release wouldnāt need to focus on fixing BRAND NEW bugs
Android ? Just wait until you see the list for it in 2023r3
Its BRAND NEW and so much stuff is broken I find it VERY VERY hard to imagine it got much testing
Initial quality would improve their overall situation immensely
And OMG fix whatever it is you guys have busted in the IDE
Now Iāve run into situations where I change code, hit run and the errors shown are literally NOT in my code anywhere - its what I changed the code FROM
ARG !!!
Well, maybe weāre seeing a kind of clash of mentalities. On one side we have those who try to make code as modular, compact, simple and bug-free as possible, adding small improvements and always prioritising quality over quantity. On the other side, we have the bullshitters who follow their out-of-this-world benchmarks and visions.
