There’s no hope for anything to change. Xojo just gives the community the silent treatment.

They fixed a bug 4 days before release of r2
I know - it was a bug I’d reported
CUT THE INSULTS !
PERIOD
Ahhh right, somehow a lots of bugs in an unrelated system can somehow cause a bug in a new feature that would necessitate an emergency patch. Got it…
Yes, it is a step in the right direction. If they do it again with the next release and take a stab at some of those decade old bugs and languishing show-stoppers, while still being careful about not introducing a mountain of all new bugs in the process, it would be an even bigger and more honest step. Right now I am totally skeptical about the intentions of and the longevity of their efforts at quality control. That being said, if they again demonstrate that this will be a serious and on-going effort to make the product whole again, I would not hesitate to renew all my pro licences (both my own and customers) to support that ongoing effort.
Right now I dont for a moment believe that this was anything more then a bone cast toward the customers in an effort to simply reduce the flow of richly deserved withering public criticism.
If it proved to be more genuine (with further, major and timely successive bug-only releases), then I would be more than happy to support that effort with my money, time, interest and outspoken support and product advocacy whenever possible.
I would love to like this company and product again. I could certainly overlook any prior shortcomings or poor performance if they suddenly decided to put quality first and start chipping away at the massive backlog of technical neglect, even if initial efforts was less then stellar.
I just do not believe that was the reason behind the bug fix release nor do I believe that further such releases and quality assurance releases are forthcoming within my lifetime, but I would love to be proven wrong and would gladly eat my own hat.
Why do you suddenly talk about “unrelated” systems??? Sorry, but if you need to move the goal posts to make your argument then you have no argument.
Obviously not. Take the 32bit maths bug in a 64bit environment problem. Affected not just the maths but things like the Format function and the debugger display and what not. And that is a fairly straightforward example. It gets really interesting when you get to intermittent effects that only raise their head in specific circumstances and because several bugs come together.
Now THAT sort of self-deprecating humour I appreciate … ![]()
Lighten up, granddad
I’m sure Varandor gets sarcasm, and I’ll gladly help him if he ever needs it (though I strongly suspect he is a much better programmer than I am, and no, that is not a sarcastic comment).
And just for the record, turns out that the delta variant has already been spreading in the community for at least two weeks and could by now be anywhere in NZ. Which just proves my point about those idiots who mocked the NZ reaction to “just one case”. ![]()

Let just say that fixing one bug can cause others IF the design was to rely on side effects of the buggy code
Been there done that caused a few bugs this way (which were also fixed)
Sometimes the design of the code is the bug
But then by definition it is working as designed… and Xojo Inc considers changing that a feature request…
I am pretty sure every time I made such feedback about what was IMO a design bug, that is the response I got.

Taken out of context yeah I can see why that response IS sometime garnered
But, in the context of my comment, where the code worked by side effects that designis prone to bugs because if you touch the code you may remove the side effect and cause a bug in another place
I encountered such things in various place in my decades there and fixed them everywhere i could so action by side effect was NOT a design goal
.
Take the covid risk calculator then perhaps you could stop soiling your underpants.
Sure. You are so right - what was I thinking. Enjoy socialising to your hearts content … and give my best regards to Dick Farrel (and Phil Valentine if he’s with Dick) … ![]()
Really, one has to wonder why supposedly intelligent people never thought of that. It is all so very easily solved.
Simple solutions:
(1) to deal with illegal immigration: just build a wall.
What do you mean ladders? They are not allowed to climb the wall! It is illegal to climb my wall!!! SHOOT THEM if they climb the wall! What do you mean shooting them for climbing the wall is illegal? Can’t we make a law against illegal climbers???
(2) to deal with Covid when it first appeared: just shut down the World for 4 weeks - Problem solved
What do you mean some don’t want to? They think it is a HOAX? Are they insane? What do the Democrats say? Oh! IT’S A HOAX PEOPLE - DON’T LISTEN TO FAUCI!
(3) to treat Covid when you are infected: just use something recommended on the internet. Or use bleach - Problem solved
What do you mean it doesn’t work? I heard from a priest - and surely a priest wouldn’t lie and has good connections to upstairs - that bleach is a miracle cure against Aids, Cancer, gay, and it can even make your hair blonde - how amazing is that. If it can do that hair thing than surely it can do anything! I’m sold - gimme some!
(4a) to deal with Covid when it spreads: turn off 5G - Problem solved
What do you mean some burn down 5G towers? Are they insane? We could still have used the towers to look for illegal immigrants illegally trying to illegally climb my beautiful wall! Illegally!
(4b) to deal with Covid when it spreads: quickly immunize the population - Problem solved
What do you mean some don’t want to get vaccinated? They think is’s a plot to implant chips in them? Which flavor? And where are my Pringles …? WHO ATE MY PRI… oh, Bill Gates is injecting them into sheep? That BASTARD!
(4c) to deal with Covid when it spreads: keep the old folks separate from everyone else - Problem solved
What do you mean that isn’t working? That you still need to have non-old people look after the oldies? Can’t the Oldtimers look after themselves? That they tried it in Sweden and they still managed to have one of the highest death rates in Europe? Surely the Swedes must be incompetent - that could NEVER happen in the US where people are MUCH more rational and follow health advice!
(4d) to deal with Covid when it spreads: keep the old folks separate from everyone else - Problem solved
What is that “evolutionary pressure” you keep talking about - don’t you know that Evolution is just random and doesn’t apply to Humans? What do you mean they tried it in India and the virus didn’t play along but came up with the delta variant that is better at infecting younger people? Is the virus insane? Does it not know that Evolution doesn’t exist?*
Simple solutions for simple minds …
What the graphic suggests is that if you let the pandemic get out of hand then it is NOT “just” old people that are dying (see the blue and green trending down). So how do you deal with people in their 40s and 50s dying?
And if you think you can just let the virus run riot in young people then every mutation that makes it easier to infect young people will have a massive selection advantage - it is no wonder that Delta arose in India, a country with a large population and a lot of young people, and not in Japan, a country with a much smaller population and lot of old people.
That is the problem with not immunising the young and especially where Africa is concerned - ideal breeding grounds for making Covid target younger and younger people.
You dont seriously believe that the vaccines are some kind of global conspiracy ?
Never seen this level of ignorance.
Never seen this level of ignorance.
Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing.
