XDC on live support

Remember those times when as a developer or technologist you would eagerly await the arrival of Steve Jobs to an Apple Keynote, or when you went to see your favourite bands in concert. Goosebumps.

Well it’s 8:45 am in London - XDC is poised to start. Dana is making the final tweaks to Geoff’s keynote by changing the dates from 2017 to 2023, but keeping everything else the same.

Lights, action, paywall!

As news trickles through, I’m eagerly awaiting a stream of great comedy and critical analysis of the event from everyone @ INN.

Its all going according to plan
Really !
Trust me
:stuck_out_tongue:

Huge crowd…

It is announced that this year’s presentations will be available for free. This is a good and sensible move.

Better late than never :slightly_smiling_face:

something is better than nothing I guess

no price tag on the water! That’s excellent news and progress.

and the neck loops are blue, interesting

looks like they finished already Bob’s guidelines from yesterday :-). I’m still missing his BKeeney Briefs. All you had to know in a nutshell …

I don’t think the emergency exit has ever been so close to GP, but I don’t know whether that’s a sign and whether it was organized that way.

They#ll have a nice time there. Let’s do what they want. I believe that it is gone. Time passed by. And so they may have to redesign something. And fx bugs. Let them do it. In that time we will program all platforms with Java and Javafx and so on.

And there’s the post from Alyssa

We are committed to focus on bug fixes and will continue to fix these types of bugs during each release cycle.

If so why does the total # of BUG reports keep going UP ?

DatabaseConnection Class: A lot of work has been done to make connecting to databases easier with more on the way.

this is already pretty trivial and ISNT as useful as a built in ORM etc would be but …

Sales of Xojo licenses continue to grow in 2023! This year-to-date, license renewals are up 10% over the same period last year and new license sales are up 20%.

up from … where ? I dont recall them saying sales or renewals were up down or anything last year
so there’s no baseline I can think of

Xojo Android is currently at 96% completion with only a handful of things remaining.

Assuming this means 96% of the reduced functionality list ? like

  • Cannot automatically convert between String and MemoryBlock
  • no plugins in v1
  • and a VERY long list of other unsupported features (like basic language things like operator_convert, operator_lookup, code profiler, XML, regex, tcp and ump sockets, pdf, user added attributes on anything, dark mode, crypto, color groups, graphics brush shadow brush etc, and #pragma debug)

EDIT : oh yes and they also said there will not be an in person XDC2024
how could I miss that ???

At least sales and renewals were not 0, that’s good news for them  .

Like for instance the business case. Users who saw the need years ago are probably using a different solution meanwhile.

All these fancy % are given without sufficient information to be verified. Without evidence its just silly marketing hyperbole.

Bugs - le sujet qui fâche.

Covering the global state of things with marketing sugarcoat may not be the best idea…

and I am missing the numbers of not renewed licenses.

The last 5% are usally the hardest, cause everybody is doing the easiest things first

Until now they failed to deliver a common ‘mobile’ codebase facility. It is promised, but how long will that take?

c’est un français très poli pour une bagnole qui est coincée profondément et complètement dans la boue depuis des années
