I keep threatening my wife with paving the entire yard 
Esp after she gripes about having a sore back from weeding for the entire day
She knows I’m joking and it does look nice but she does the majority of the maintenance
My main job is the oilfield, and my hobby is computers which include software, hardware, and firmware. When I get enough questions about some question such as sonars, then I will often create a sonar that does ‘something’ that does not exist in the world and either release it to the community, make it for a client, or manufacture it in a prototype.
It sounds weird, and making stuff is relaxing - yea, fourier transform is pretty cool to play with
plants and pools are not good bedfellows, I have to look after the pool and the rubbish blown about from neighbours who do not look after their gardens is a point of contention as it is, without a whole load from our own.
apparently my next ‘hobby’ (starting tomorrow) is building a gazebo so wife and daughter can laze about outside without having to move the umbrella while I chase the grandson about the place to give them some peace.
that is this weeks ‘hobby’ it appears next weeks ‘hobby’ involves a large bucket of paint and some rollers…

why do we have to like having plants everywhere?
its a little unfair to make such a seemingly personal comment on our home choice.
in the spirit of the forum guidelines, I would offer to you that I would never comment on a picture of your house engulfed in flowers and say it looked sad or anything else, if I had nothing positive to say about the greenery I would chose to say nothing.
I am not wishing to enter into a discord regarding my personal like or dislike regarding greenery, I did find your comment about my choice of not having plants to be unnecessary, if you do not mind me saying.
