Looks like USA is totally under TRUMP control and nobody can rescue this former so nice country. I believe that it is possibly to late to get out of this guys Ideas. People still believung that he made
In theory it WAS forbidden
And then you get the Supreme court allowing it
And Congress allowing it
The founders veneer imagined that ALL the branches would collie to turn a president into a King
What ever. At the moment it looks like Trmp can do what he wants the supreme court will not really complain
My apologies. I misunderstood your comment.
He could have written in simpler terms and reached more people, but still a wide reaching analysis of the US:
The German constitution (Grundgesetz) was crafted after WWII and the very bad experience with a corrupt madman at the helm of the country.
The German “Grundgesetz” is motre airtight, true. But the German constitution is possibly not protecting if a nazi party wins the election. Cause in that case we have no chance as there should be a mechanism before to forbid the political party all activation and existance. But to do that it is a really complex way which was until now not working for the nazi party which is active in germany: the AFD (Alternative für Deutschland). As long as this party is not foirbidden they can be voted and they can be the one bringing the next chancellor. That ma end up in a Nazi gouvernment. We had that. It is a big problem with all democratical systems. The only difference is: even if they get voted: they will not have this amount of power Mr. Trump has.
I think America’s system was assumed to be ingenious and perfect because it has basically worked for 250 years and you can’t argue with “success” (world power). But now we see how much it depended on bad assumptions, of the general form: “Of COURSE no one would EVER act in bad faith; society as a whole wouldn’t stand for it”. It doesn’t account for human venality and stupidity.
I think a lot of what got us this far was an accident of geography; we had two big oceans and a frozen north pole that made it difficult for other to project raw power this far, we had all the natural resources we needed, the natives were weak and easy to steamroll, etc.
Ironically now the pole is melting and pretty soon everyone will have ICBMs and long range drones. Combined with all the unforced errors (just the brain drain of scientists out of the US alone is a huge deal) I think we are going to find out what much of the rest of the world experiences in terms of insecurity and threat vectors.
For Putin everybody except himself and his oligarch buddies is a Nazi.
For US-BigTech-Billionairs (let’s call them oligarchs aswell) everybody except themselves is a Communist. And the Pope is the Über-Commie working for China… bollocks!
More than ever: An united Europe with its pluralism of ideas, his many Nations, freedoms and protection of minorities, rule-based trade, data protection, AI regulation, enviromental protection and social balanced Democraties is more needed than ever. Especially when the checks and balances in the US are crushed by BigTech oligarchs like Musk, Thiel, Bezos, Gates, Murdochs and others.
And I love how Europe is acting:
Republican ban on pregnant foreigners entering US would have kept Trump’s father from being born in New York to mother who arrived six months pregnant
… actually that’s by far the best argument FOR a ban that I’ve heard. Maybe not so smart of Democrats to point this out… ![]()
I really hope that they will form a digital tax. Yes I know I have to pay more for the American services. But in that case european vendors even have a chance to compete with them. And yes, this is something what makes a bad taste for Mr. Trump. Another Bullet he was shooting in his own leg was the insiring of europes weapon industries to produce own systems. This leads to: we have by self we do not need to buy in USA. That’s a lot of money he will loose over the time.
America under Trump is an America we can’t trust in any kind. It is a dangerous partner which has a gouvernment stupid as heck. The Iran war showed this really effective. They destroyed the believing of the Iran that the USA could hold the street of Hormus free. Now they know: the USA can not do this. Not without ground troups in Iran and without millions of deaths, So this believing was effectively destroyed and now everybody will have to pay for the passage of the street of Hormus. Simple.
And he showed: we could not protect Taiwan in the case of a war. All we can do is telling the people: wee won. But it has no connection to reality. Good Job Donnie.
If we are able to extract him after this from USA it is okay. Ah, nay. He would lnd in Germany.
Good article on the problem that the US has:
What’s even worse, is that a detailed study of Trump supporters indicates that they are now so politically and historically illiterate that they don’t like the idea of democracy and they most certainly don’t like pluralism. They are firmly in favor of minority rule and consider anything but illiberalism to be “tyranny”. They are primitive tribalists through and through. They are bent on preserving white supremacism above all else.
In 30 or 40 years, scholars of history, if they exist, will want to know how the richest country in history, with the world’s most powerful alliance network, and a scientific and research capacity fuelled by the talent of the world, chose to throw it all away.
From the beginning, the most intelligent Americans understood that their origin contained, within itself, the seeds of its own destruction. George Washington’s Farewell Address predicted, with startling precision, the hyperpartisanship currently ripping apart the nation he founded.
Abraham Lincoln prophesied: “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher … as a nation of freemen we must live through all time or die by suicide.” His prophecy has come true.
The American Revolution began with propertied men desiring no limit on their property, but it was fought mostly by men who owned nothing.
The motives of the revolution were grounded in more or less pure greed. The crown had halted continental expansion over the Appalachian mountains; it had attempted to ban speculation and trade in lands which it considered to belong, by right, to Indigenous people.
After the Seven Years’ war, which had made North America British, the Empire was financially exhausted. The British subject paid 26 shillings of tax to one shilling of the colonists. That one was too much.
The other harbinger of the revolution was the glee of mobs. Tarring and feathering of British officials was a grand amusement. The movement from subject to citizen was, as the documentary says, “a spectacle of violence”.
“Grab’em by the pussy” is perfectly consistent with the spirit of the revolution, every bit as much as “all men are created equal.” The founding fathers felt entitled to something for nothing, for work without paying for it. They humiliated and degraded anyone who objected.
Donald Trump is the ultimate nostalgia act. I mean, they call it “make America great again” for a reason. Trump’s violation of political norms must be understood as fully consistent with a revolutionary country in which patriotism was determined, from the beginning, by the violent overthrow of established order.
“There’s a lot of people out there calling for the end of violence … who say that any violence or aggression at all is unacceptable regardless of the circumstances.” Rush Limbaugh said this after January 6. He continued: “I am glad Sam Adams … Thomas Paine … the actual tea party guys … the men at Lexington and Concord, didn’t feel that way.”
The elected officials the rioters attacked have come to agree with their attackers. In the “anti-weaponization fund” Trump sought to create, which could have rewarded the latter-day rebels, he symbolically chose $1.776 bn dollars as the total.
The Americans are slouching back to their origin. Greed and spectacles of punishment define them.
Americans aren’t addicted to liberty itself, but the sense of liberation, the throwing off of shackles. They get high on it. The revolution rendered mobs overthrowing, by violence, political authority an explicit political good, the foundational political good.
It’s the American poison with which they commit Lincoln’s prophesied suicide.
[excerpted and rearranged from America is destroying itself. It’s no surprise | Stephen Marche | The Guardian]
P.S. The parallels of what’s going on in the USA with the fall of the Roman Republic aren’t accidental - Project 2025 used it as a blueprint.
His power comes from his Billionaire buddies and friends including BigTech Companies. You saw it already at his Inauguration. One example: Lockheed. SPend 1 Mio in his campaign, another couple of Millions in his east wing project and now get Billions back in contracts.
In normal functional democraties you call this corruption or cleptocracy.
