The Xojo Problem

I think you should stop criticizing those who have the experience.

Generally Iā€™d agree that Mac desktop is their strength

But even there Iā€™ve encountered some bugs that are a bitch to work around

And Xojoā€™s reply to them has been, largely,

Well that sucks for you but youā€™re the only person that has reported this
and then the bug languishes

The bottom line is that you use the tool that works best for you, whether that is Xojo, Java, Purebasic or ?

There is no one best programming language/tool.

Amen to that and exactly my point.

I am NOT criticizing those people, I am criticizing the people that keep wining about software they claim they donā€™t use anymore. I went to Malta for my holidays 10 years ago and had a horrible time. I told people about it when I returned and then went on looking for another place to go to next year. Just imagine yourself I was still bitching about that 10 years later?

May be correct for Hal but it is not for me as I am working as consutant often on projects done with Xojo and hanging on showstpper-bugs. Su I guess that is the anti argument, isnā€™t it? I am not wining about a Software I am not using anymore, I am speaking about concrete problems with a software people relying on with their commercial products and that are stocked in situations like I described already. Bus over bugs and problems over problems with a shitty documentation and an ecosystem which isnā€™t around. For me it is so that I need to help in situation Xojo is the definitely wrong Software while too many bugs. I wrote a Java interface to have more chances for workarounds, I wrote many desktop components in C++ for MacOS and also for Windows. So I canā€™t get what you are speaking about. Wining? No. Pretest? Yes. With all rights people can have.

There ARE some who have moved totally away from Xojo
Two I know are :
-Hal uses PHP daily
-Dave uses Swift (occasionally dabbles in Xojo but mostly avoids it)

And they HAVE experience with Xojo
So when that topic comes up their posts are no more, or less relevant than any others
They may or may not be current though

Imagine the topic of ā€œVacation in Maltaā€ came up after your visit
A few weeks after your visit your experience is VERY relevant
A few months its still relevant
But a decade later it carries less weight - it could easily have changed in 10 years

Treat Xojo opinions that way

Some of us have more than 20 years of experience with it and still use it daily

That is exactly the point. That I am not using Xojo for any active or new project means not that I am not confronted with Xojo problems. The math problems I am avoiding with inline Java Classes with my Plugin. Some other problems also. Even PDF I am generating with it and Apache PDF. Also I am using Apache POI and other classes like parts of Apache commons for some stuffs.

But it is not while I love Java. It is while it is no possible solution given with Xojo or that there is a massive showstopping Bug with Xojo so I need to workaround. And that, thatā€™s true, I like to do with Java cause it is my ā€œhomeā€ language. There are other stuffs a real problem. For example I was outsourcing multithreading with Java so it is no problem that there is none with Xojo. And at the end I was also writing a Database SQL API to be able to use the really good connectors and optimizations Java has in case of Databases.

So I guess: there is a bit of experience with Xojo I believe.

Indeed. His English is extremely poor (I think he is German and writes English as you would talk German)
Almost irritating. :expressionless:

Nice critics. Hitsā€¦not. And if this is the only thing Geoffieā€¦ohh god. You should begin at the right point: the problems Xojo serves to the people using Xojo. That would be a beginning of the right process. To discuss my use of the english language and to discuss how to speak in the right way so you are satisfiedā€¦wow. It has nothing to do with the discussion. It shows how poor you are.

As I see it, you are someone who has too much time on your hands just to rant about Xojo.

No not at all. But to inform about that what is a problem about so customers get aware of the problems they run into.

I can perfectly understand your english. We all make mistakes, nothing wrong with that.

Thatā€™s not the point. He wants to say something else I guess. But it shows: reality disturbs him. Good!

How is your German?

I can mostly understand what heā€™s saying, but texts like: ā€œYou should begin at the right point: the problems Xojo serves to the people using Xojoā€ really makes my skin crawlā€¦ Itā€™s like Xojo is willfully creating problems to hinder their customers.

I followed the link to the list of bugs (posted here earlier) and I can see for myself that a lot of bugs are being solved. So I guess the people at Xojo are working to get things solved. But you can only do so much if you also want to develop new stuff, so that takes time. Some people (also here on the forum) report a LOT of bugs and some even can be seen as ridiculous or childish. I mean when youā€™re criticizing the terms being used in the manual and contradicting them because you think itā€™s wrongā€¦ I have owned my own company for over 25 years and I can say that there are always customers that canā€™t be satisfied. Some people demand the impossible and when you stop helping them (because thatā€™s the only thing you CAN do eventually) they will use every means possible to give you and your company a bad rep. And there are so many easy ways to do that these days: social media, fora, etc.

German and French people are normally quite bad at English: they refuse to learn another language than their own and English movies are often overdubbed in German/French. So considering that he is quite good at English

Well, it has more to do with people really understanding what you mean than to get people satisfied

Attacking someoneā€™s use of language usually shows they have no legitimate argument. Very Trumpian.

Itā€™s like only using Xojo Desktop and saying Xojo is great without the experience of web, iOS, or Android. Itā€™s gaslighting.

Not about that at all. What I meant is that I sometimes really do not understand what he means and if thereā€™s maybe any sarcasm in there. I guess not.

I think I literally said that in my experience Xojo iOS/Android/Web sucked and that I changed my plans about buying that license. I also said that my real experience is limited to Mac Desktop and a bit of Windows desktop and that MY OPINION was that THAT worked well. So Iā€™m not sure at who this remark is aimed?

Going after language like that is about trying to tear someone down in public to embarrass. Should have been a private message to get an explanation if it was so confusing.

The latter about making arguments without knowing the full picture but acting like an expert.

Iā€™m not pointing out who said what, but a pattern of disingenuous speech.

I think Thorsten literally said he was forced to work with Xojo by a customer. Do you think somebody like that can make a fair evaluation of Xojo? I never claimed anywhere that I was an expert on Xojo, I merely suggested that my experience with Mac Desktop was very good, nothing more, nothing less. I even supported Npalardy in his conclusion that Android and iOS support was very underrated. So not quite sure why your targeting me as the Messias of Xojo :joy:
