Ivan’s question was not answered. And this is all ‘helping’ in this context is about.
There are many words, possibly carefully chosen, but there is no substance. Politician’s language.
Absolutely
In theory they could recreate their dev and build systems to make changes to an old version it would bit a TON of work
I don’t know how much of they build process uses VM’s and docker containers or similar that could be archived and kept for such purposes
I suspect they don’t retain any of that and so there’s no easy way top go back in time & use an old configuration to do any work on an old version
And so a “new” build of an old version that supports Web 1 is highly highly unlikely
And then there are issues I expect with signing certs etc etc
At most what they might be able to do is suggest user level fixes/tweaks to the java script & css to mitigate any browser issues. Maybe an alteration to a plugin.
But to the core IDE and frameworks - I seriously doubt it
So much so I’d put money on “This will NEVER happen”
Weasel words as they are commonly referred to
That would be because he’s been told not to respond to forum posts by Dana.
And the renaming fest continues in full swing
Code that isnt even months old in their Android tool will be deprecated for renamed new properties, methods, & events
It’s really strange how concerned Geoff claims to be about breaking code, yet it seems to be happening a lot recently.
When we were there, breaking code was a topic that wasn’t even discussed. Your idea would get shot down instantly. Seems to be in pursuit of the “perfect” language, but we all know there is no such thing. Every language has its warts.
That there is no cognitive dissonance is truly amazing
But TBH I think it gets rationalized away with “people will learn” or something with no consideration for the effects this has on long term users and projects that have grown up over years
Its easy for people new to the language to adopt all this new stuff
Older projects it can be much more difficult as its a lot more work
Esp things like changing the index from 1 to 0 in some cases
Things where search & replace simply CANT help out a lot because you actually need to review the code to maybe revise it to adjust it
But … I’ve come to realize, like Bob did that long term users arent Xojo’s main concern
So they do stuff like this in the belief it will make “the language” more consistent and damn the torpedoes
Right, but since Android is still in beta, we know to not make big projects for it…
This is as close to “will you patch an old version to make it work on a new version of the OS” as has been asked
Note - no direct answer
Just “privately ask support & we’ll see”
More misdirection and holding out hope
But we all know there is NO chance in hell they would update 2019r2 (or any there old version that supports Web 1 even if there was a bug that needed fixing in the framework so Web 1 projects can continue working
sounds like “we have to do a BBQ”
but without fixed date and location it is more like: “you’re welcome”
The direct, more honest answer would be “leave me alone”
I guess now I need popcorn…
This may have made you a candidate for a 1000-year ban
Yeah, I am being argumentative. If they ban me for this, it emphasizes the point that they don’t care what customers think.
The problem is that Geoff only appears to see what direct profit each customer brings in. He doesn’t seem to understand that a portion of your customers are actually one of your strongest assets.
You know of Electron right? How much advertising have you seen for Electron? I don’t recall seeing any, but I do recall reading about how companies switched over to Electron for the benefits it bought them.
Imagine if Xojo’s attention was on making a product that made companies and developers happy enough that they’d do marketing about developing their product in Xojo?
The post following yours states that since the beginning of the thread (8 days) no clear answer or way forward has been provided by Xojo Inc.
Something everyone can do on their own: put 2019r3 in VM with an OS it conforms to for maintenance of existing projects and Swiftly move on for new projects
cough Electron? cough please take another example…
This is a world view a narcissistic mind is unable to embrace.
It may not be the best example, or the best product, but it gets plenty of exposure from trusted companies, simply for being the tool that does the job.
That is their answer.
Yep. The first of Watzlawick’s axioms: one cannot not communicate.
