there is no such thing as a “one sided opinion”, our opinion is Xojo is dying, yours is that it is not, whcih is fine, but that is TWO sides. Asking the same question on TOF would be removed immediately as they (Xojo Management) doesn’t want ANY opinions but what they sanction.
As to “a handful”, the count may not be huge, but the knowledge base is, which is a huge loss for Xojo. There are a number of users that have abandoned Xojo more by being forced out becuase they attempted to provide information to improve the product and were rudely rebuffed for doing so, and then of course the bug reports that are ignored or systematiclly closed is a whole nother story.
So, if you are of the opinion the Xojo is Great, then they have a forum for that… but this one is not it, The OP asked OUR opinion, and it was freely given, it is up to him to decide on his own the direction he wishes to take
You may dream that but it becomes not false while you mean that. And the frustration is long time to see also on the vendor forum. It is not true that Xojo is sooo bugfree and production ready.
Take Android. Normally you can select the device you wanna have as main target. That makes it simple to use it for today sized Android phones. That is impossible with Xojo Android. And Android comes without tables. So we could leave Android where it is: in it’s alpha state.
Android and iOS have together: no chance to set button backgrounds, no handling of the css functionality (facing the truths: there are none). So that’s a bit like it was in the late alpha state of flutter / dart.
Web… yeah web isn’t really stable and the biggest problem is: there should not be too many people online. On top it has a memory problem which makes the risk really high that your application may run out of memory. The next problem is: the Web 2 has an old bootstrap. Not a good Idea. Anyway, let’s make that as a beta state. Compare it with Vaadin for Java Developers. Has the same kind of functionality. But believe it or not: much more functionality than XoJo. In it’s open source version .
So we will come to Desktop. Neither on Windows or on Linux I have really native Desktops. The components are kind of. But not really. The speed of a XoJo 2025 App is 30% less than the speed of a Java app. Except make intensive use of Threading. Then the Java App is much much faster than only 30% to the XoJo app.
Not speaking about the Bugs in the Desktop version which you can find - like all other Bugs - in the Xojo bugtracker. So Desktop is in a good Beta condition.
Comparing XoJo with Java or also C# there is another point: the availability of a wide ecosystem. With XoJo you have a small one which is not really let me say competes with the Java one. PDF is without UTF8 (okay now it has cause a user wrote something). No real chance for this ecosystem cause it becomes older and older.
You can say it is a one sided opinion but I am quiter sure that I know exactly what I am speaking about. And that has nothing to do with not being in Xojo forum. That’s only in your small world.
I guess you may feel better on Xojo forum. Here is not the place we will lie and tell people stuffs like they do there. We have no need to sind the song the company is singing.
What I wrote is reality. Word for word. If you are not able to realize that and to get that there are several possible reasons:
your Idea about software development is far away from reality
you have no Idea about modern development
your knowledge about developing with Java, c++, c#, python, flutter/Dart and others is not available
you have no contact to the real situation
you can’t read their bugtracker
you try to lie about the fundamental situation of XoJo
so I would say: get one of this reasons and that’s it. i guess you don’t like critics on your beloved but amateur like programmed solution. Good. Not my problem. Truths are not becoming unreal while you believe that XoJo is a professional und good solution. It is still: a beta.
Only for information: what ever you try to tell people: it may work there. But not here. While trying to lie is always a bad way. Cause everybody can see that my informations are real and what I say is true. So go and leave it alone. But son’t try always to tell people here are not speaking truths
It looks a bit like Markus. He behaves like it and what he says sounds like it, He only has no courage to speak that out. But I could believe he is.
But what ever he is, he has to realize that here people can write bad stuffs about XoJo and there is no, really no censoring. They should become more open to this Idea on top. Would may be help to realize in which position they are at the moment and which chances they may have for the future
Said again and again …. One… because it is true, and Two… believe it or not we kinda hope they listen…. but yeah not happening…. .and “same handfull”… you mean the members of THIS forum, while the members of the Xojo forum are allowed to say what they want? (try that sometime)
Don’t get me wrong, I would welcome it if he’s here. Would be fun debating some of his decisions, especially “not listening to others” and “driving away those that disagree with me” …
If anything, folks like us should be a great resource for Geoff. Many (most?) of us really liked Xojo and some of us were really active in the community. I know I wish them nothing but success and that they turn things around because I still have fondness in my heart for the 20+ years I used the product.
However, as much as I want them to get better, history and personal experience suggests otherwise. Instead of having an honest conversation with us we’d most likely get lip service to ‘be better’. Whatever that means. We’ve all spent way too much time on this forum addressing things that we think should be better and done different.
At the end of the day Xojo is a tiny company with limited resources with a tiny, aging, community that is getting smaller every year. And now that the Pro’s that could afford expensive licenses have been run off, and the elimination of the cheap licenses are driving off the hobbyists it sure seems like they’ve managed piss off just about everyone. I don’t see a viable path forward for them.
I could be wrong. Part of me hopes I’m wrong. But after tasting the wares of bigger development communities I just don’t see myself going back.
I am sure they can be lucky that Alyssa is doing the marketing and sales for Xojo. She is knowledgeable, experienced and put a human face on the company.
that nobody can ignore and be still. I disagree too.She makes exactly what the CEO wants her to do. Nothing else. She get’s paid exactly for this. Even when and if they play something like good cop bad cop: she is mostly the bad cop. and everybody knows that the good cop is never fulfilling what he promises.
