To my friends who are MAGA, you may be surprised to hear me say that I understand why all of this nonsense started. You were fed up with a corrupt government on both sides. Career politicians. Endless wars. No accountability. A system that never seemed to work for regular people. That frustration was valid.
I can understand why your movement made sense to you in the early days. America first. Border security. Ending corruption. “Drain the swamp.” No more forever wars. Those ideas crossed party lines. Even the symbolism said it all. Throw both parties out and start over.
But you were being conned, and that is not what this is anymore.
Most Americans support border enforcement. What they do not support is citizens being stopped in grocery stores and gas stations because they look or sound foreign. Kavanaugh style stops are not law enforcement. They are racial profiling with a badge.
The Fourth and Fifth Amendments exist to stop exactly this. Citizens do not carry papers. Citizens do not owe federal agents answers without cause. Minnesota did not erupt because violent criminals were targeted. It erupted because ordinary people are being unlawfully detained based on skin color and accent. There is video. Lots of it.
So here is the problem you keep dodging.
If you know this administration is violating constitutional rights, why is there silence? Why is it so hard to say I voted for this but this is wrong? If integrity mattered then, why does loyalty matter more now?
You also recoil when people say fascism or Nazism. Then answer this honestly. Why was a Nazi slogan placed on Kristi Noem’s podium?
One of ours, all of yours is not subtle. It is collective punishment. It is straight out of fascist doctrine, and it is now reflected in policy.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck…. I have many other diatribes that compare the Project 2025 current administration’s agenda with the playbook of Joseph Goebbels, who may very well have been reincarnated as Stephen Miller, so I digress on that for now.
When a federal agent tells protesters “if you raise your voice I will erase your voice” (also on video), that is not law and order. That is a threat against Americans for using the First Amendment.
Do you care more about the Constitution, or about protecting this administration? You cannot say both. Right now they are in absolute and undebatable direct conflict.
So here is the only question that actually matters.
At what point did defending ‘your president’ become more important than defending the rights you once said defined America?
