Looking how poor homeless people are treated in US shocks me all time. In Germany they would have the right to get money from state for renting rooms, food, heating, water, health-insurance. Something what would help the people in US also.
Lobbists bribe Politicians for the benefit of Corporations. Reverse Robinhood…
Bribes are essentially legal if you do it “right”.
So the capital gouverns the world. From some reasons I am happy to live in germany. The health insurance system in USA is hell. For somebody with 5k medication costs per month… I don’t know what people in USA are doing with the same problems
Going bankrupt
Rationing their meds and getting progressively worse
Going without and ending in emergency or passing away
Sadly
The other part if this is to give Corporations all these tax breaks, the money has to come from somewhere, usually in the form of taking away resources from the people. Things like Medicaid, School Lunches.
In FL, DeSantis took donations aka bribes from the insurance industries and our rates have skyrocketed.
Take from the People and give to the Rich…
A rationing of immunsupressive medication is not possible. So patients will sufferand being retarded reaaly fast. Tat is the reality behind. Super sad.
I get that
But if you cant afford it what options do you have ?
We have this issue here where I can go se a Dr and pay nothing
But if he writes me a prescription they are NOT covered under national health care programs
And its a serious issue when people cannot buy their prescriptions
The current govt is trying to get a national pharmacare program in place BUT, surprise surprise, the Conservative Party, our version of the GOP, is fighting it tooth and nail and delaying implementation
Gotta love them standing up for the little guy
The insane part is how so many vote against their own interests.
I need a 10,000% agree button
When speaking of chronic homeless (among other things), mental health issues should include (c)PTSD: especially related to trauma and abuse.
There are many situations that will cause an inability to trust when someone is offering help for free, especially when such things are also a common abuse tactic to trap someone.
There is also the issue of many “free” helps and services having hidden costs, extreme requirements and penalizations, and infantilization, especially when a religious organization is attached. The time it takes to evaluate each service on the individuals end has to be considered too. They may be convinced to travel to a Salvation Army for example, only to be turned away for discriminatory reasons, and have an entire day wasted as a result.
Any new solution being presented has to differentiate from these malicious programs, and find a way to convince the people it wants to help.
Using compulsion as a solution can make things significantly worse in these cases because compulsion implies an or else what, and you need to present what that is. And in some places I’ve lived, even when that is prison, people have chosen that instead: fewer unknowns, and perhaps knowledge of what to expect.
A good solution wouldn’t be overnight, or quick. You’d need to set up something funded and stable, so it’s known that its a good and safe solution. That’s usually not appealing though. Some other solutions include providing education with a promise of employment, etc., following up with people, and meeting them where they are at. Genuine concern in the moment usually helps much more than a threat.
There are other reasons too. Sometimes politics, or just nimbyism prevents solutions from coming about.
and don’t forget getting maligned and yelled at the entire way from people “trying to help”
Not being able to afford meds is almost a sin in this country.
Yes, I understand. But what ever, I am happy that I am living in a state with an insurance every german citizen MUST have. You can’t stay without health insurance, that is forbidden by law. We have here the situation that you have to pay a few euro for your prescription. The rest is paid from the insurance. People which are spending more than 1% of their yearly incomes for prescriptions do not have to pay even this low fee. People which are getting social Service are not paying this fees.
Included are all doctors including dentist, hospital and much more. Something what makes life more easy.
That sounds very different than in the US.
In the US, they added the purchase requirement on top of the already shitty insurance issue.
So now we have to pay high costs, still don’t get to visit the doctor, our meds randomly become unavailable, this level of garbage doesn’t include dental and vision, and also we’re required to pay for it. All the premium seems to get us is 1 free physical per year, and a therapist.
There are some places better than others. In MA, on MassHealth, the coverage is fantastic. But once you earn over a certain amount, you have to purchase healthcare on your own, from a provider that likes to screw around with your care.
The problem isn’t the concept. The problem is the execution sucks. You pay a fee and get services that seem to cover all healthcare. We pay a large monthly fee for “doctor” and don’t even get that.
And if it’s subsidized so you are able to pay less, it comes with them reminding you every month when you pay that you are a garbage person.
It’s the profit…
we’ve started to have a national pharmacare program to make it so people DO get the meds prescribed
it only covers a small portion of the population at this point
but its a start
It’s not only meds. I need for example 6 times a year MRI for control. No problem. Going to the hospital and leaving after an hour with the data in my hands. Costs nothing. And so on. I have no idea how I could live if I would stay on us before 30 years. That’s sad at all.
Here that would be covered
Our failing is really meds, dental and vision care which are partially covered in some places & not at all in others. It varies from province to province and isnt consistent nationally.
Lots of people have supplemental insurance through employers for these things
Or pay for it privately
But like I said the federal govt IS trying to put a plan in place
And the other major party is fighting them because OMG it might cost money and where are we going to get that ???
Uhh how about reasonable tax rates on companies ?
My personal income rate is 35%
Corporations top out much lower (as low as 9%)
Company Tax rate is here 30%. My personal Tx rate is 38%. Much money. But needed for paying all of this.
That sounds like heaven.
For my sleep study, they told me I needed $5,000 cash on arrival or they would cancel. And they told me that the morning of the study.
