Feedback on why I’m not using Xojo currently

I asked to be removed from a Xojo mailing list today, they asked why I requested this.

I replied

  1. Bugs

  2. Limited functionality

  3. Market awareness

  4. Lack of work in Xojo

  5. Closed source

  6. Price

  7. Companies want mainstream languages

  8. Lack of web functionality

  9. Limited mobile functionality

  10. Limited support

  11. Lack of AI understanding of code

  12. Slow IDE

  13. Bad runtime performance

  14. Bad reputation in industry

Did I miss anything?

They did say this

“I’d say this year I’ve heard back from about 20 people saying they’ve left Xojo.“

I’d guess more have left in silence

Let me say I left while: too many reasons, don’t want to cause an out of memory incident

  1. Massive EGO of the CEO
  2. Unwillingness of CEO to consider opinions of long term clients (causing them to become non-clients)

I’m surprised even 20 people bothered to say they left Xojo with such a small user base

Yeah I didn’t bother to say anything at the time but I did answer the survey they sent out a few weeks back. I gave Xojo a good shakedown on a real, significant app (took me about 10 days to rewrite in WinForms) and I regarded retiring the Xojo version as retiring technical debt.]

If they responded with “about 20 people left this year”, it is just a swipe at getting you to doubt your own judgment because you’re not part of some organized mass stampede for the exits. But most mass exoduses are not announced or organized, they happen a little at a time then suddenly accelerate, and in ways that management in denial can choose not to see.

The very existence of this site as a gathering place for Xojo refugees and Xojo devs who need a place to vent, is by itself a huge blinking red flag and they probably just dismiss it as a bunch of people with the wrong attitude and unrealistic demands. Can’t have anything to do with the product, how they treat users, their ratcheting around on features and direction and targeting, or how they moderate their forum to crush all dissent or concern.

Their reaction has been this

We’re trolls and there’s nothing wrong with their handling of customers, the product, etc

Deny deny deny

Too much information :joy:

Their point no. 1 is great: Kill them with kindness. On the very Xojo forum I witnessed some of the most vile actions from staff and their would-be sheriffs.

As I’ve heard so often
Dont listen to what they say. Watch what they DO
Not uncommon to hear them say things that sound great then do something completely opposite

The behavior of the Xojo Stormtroupers is rediculous sometimes. The Support is not there while Customers spending support instead of the company. Really interesting. But.
