What I like about Xojo vs others

  • Learning curve
  • Literature
  • You can watch 6 years old and still up to date video tutorial
  • No complex dependencies
  • You can open an old project and compile it with the latest version of Xojo and it works easily
  • You don’t force your users to always buy the latest device with the latest system version. As Apple usually does.
  • You can contact support and easily talk with the team even the CEO. For other languages the resources are never reliable or out of date.
  • This forum where you can find a solution in less than 24 hours

I did a lot of projects in C, Objective-C, Java (web and android), Dark (Flutter), etc. And now I am convinced by Xojo even if I would like things to go faster (strongly Android!). But it is certainly the price to pay.

In any case the balance is on the side of Xojo.

Xojo is truly made for small businesses. Don’t change anything :+1:

Points 3, 5, 8 are totally incorrect. Point 4 depends on which dependencies you use. Point 7, while correct often isn’t helpful.

Oh thats in off topic or something isnt it ?
Seems that too now REQUIRES a login to read along with being in the testers group :person_shrugging:

however they HAVE to be kidding

Low learning curve

ok I’ll give them that sort of

Literature

there’s NO current books on the market for it from reputable third parties. there is Xojo’s learning guide but thats about it

the url thats at made me chuckle https://xojo.com/resources/learn.php
Uh learn.php  irony ???

You can watch 6 years old and still up to date video tutorial ?

uh no you cant
It might work but then you’re writing 6 year old code which we all know MIGHT not function

You can open an old project and compile it with the latest version of Xojo and it works easily

Obviously NOT a web project
Many desktop projects may work but will generate warnings - if not outright errors

You don’t force your users to always buy the latest device with the latest system version. As Apple usually does.

Uh no they dont. My MBP is now 4 years old and I just updated it to the very latest OS
And I can still run a VM with really old version IF I need to
And, if you want to submit things to the Apple or Mac Stores you probably have to update just like any other dev as Apple changes the requirements for submission

You can contact support and easily talk with the team even the CEO. For other languages the resources are never reliable or out of date.

Lets just say thats not everyones experience and leave it there

This forum where you can find a solution in less than 24 hours

He’s lucky if he gets a “solution” in < 24 hours
I still watch & most of what happens isnt “answers” just “chatter”

I think he’s way off on several points as well
BUT he does seem to be exactly the kind of customer Xojo has sought out over the last few years

Snickers… We sell a tool to make web apps, but for our own site we use… Not our own tools!

A LOT of people have commented on that irony

Looks like a bought ‘testimony’.

No, but fentanyl is also on the rise in Europe and France and is not just a North American problem. Fentanyl is the new koolaid we veterans have been drinking for far too long.

Java has no complex dependencies, you can compile old projects without problems (just done with a two decades old swing application, three changes I have done, one was flatland look and feel and two deprecated commands and it’s running) hmmm maybe drunken and write about the wrong language?

Wouldn’t work with @bkeeney former in-depth tutorials. Just shows that the currently available videos are very basic.

I wish Xojo would compile for Commodore C64

No wonder if new Xojos features need a decade to be implemented after they were “promised”

Perhaps it is me, I’m mainly reading TOF for entertainment reasons these days, but I have the feeling that the quality of the answers dropped significantly and drops faster month by month.

TYPO, should read “In my case …” - that’s called freedom of speech.

That entire piece of ‘testimony’ is written in true Xojo marketing style, with statements far from truth and reality.
It clearly targets the new, unsuspecting customer.

Yes, but written by a nice guy, but most people on TOF are; since I left

There is the phenomenon that people like to encourage themselves that they are using the right tool. I know that about myself too. Sometimes you’re right with that perception, but unfortunately you’re often wrong.
