Blog articles on why developers have left or leaving Xojo

You are a XoJo Hero, your work was endless and your knowledge was wanted all over the XoJo environment. Reading about the work you lost makes sad, I know what amount of work it was. They killed this stuff within a few minutes. I guess many people realized that it is not good when and if a person like you quits and closes everything what he was building up over years. And congratulations the you are happy like it is now. I hope you’ll get the best for the next decade!

Well, they were warned about Web 2 and API 2. Repeatedly by many long-time Xojo developers. A business can only take so much ‘abuse’ from a vendor.

…not to mention, we are all not young anymore, have families and responsibiliy. And someday we all are old and need to live from something we have accumulated.

But accumulation fails when they change so much stzuff that you need to rewrite every single app.

Not all.

And another one leaves Xojo:

Surprised it’s not been deleted and/or locked already.

If they would realize that their IDE and compiler are crap: they should not delete that. If not: they will do that. I guess they will delete it and call that ranting. Cause truths can be hurting much.

And the truths is: I rewrote a few Xojo maps which were developed with XoJo within years. Rewriting with JavaFX was costing less together with AI for the boilerplate stuffs it was no problem. The UI controls I needed I found for JavaFX in the most cases, a few I wrote but it was no problem to do. No workarounds for problems of language, framework or compiler.

So I can understand him completely. While the XoJo way isn’t usable. Even if somebody has an allergy for curly braces: I have one in case of this tons of bugs and this toxic environment. It is a not working ecosystem.

I can’t understand people still fanboys of it. And I don’t need to understand this. I lost even the ability to react friendly on that. Cause when people starting to hurt themselves it is nothing I will ever understand.

Using other languages makes the development much faster than before and costs not that amount of nerves. So I guess there will be more people with the same story. But only a very few posting this on their forum.

At the end it makes no difference. They directed their business into this situation. And most people are locked in now. Something what is really dangerous at all. The entire point should always be not to be locked in. But like we could already see: there are people changing from XoJo to Windev to be locked the next time. Or to Delphi. So it’s their choice.

The most kickoffs aren’t done by Mr.Perlman. it’s the employees job. So somebody will see and delete one time. And on the other side: he described what’s true. Simple that. Nothing else. They got their job done with Xojo within years of fighting with poutdated stuffs and workarounds. And worked a month to get the stuff running with professional approaches.

He may be busy with the next beta of DBKit

Just had a look at Xojo‘s Website. Android support is still beta. A mobile app development platform that is still wearing diapers sold for a premium price. No wonder people jump ship.

It already occurred more than once that they locked other threads telling truth.

passing away is passing away. And in this case somebody which took care of the code. Sad at all.

2+ years of it being in beta and there are still plenty of issues

https://tracker.xojo.com/xojoinc/xojo/-/issues/?sort=created_date&state=opened&label_name[]=Android&first_page_size=100

… and eventually in many years they find out, the release of Xojo for Android runs only with Android 11, which is EOL by then

Don’t forget, the Threading is also kind of beta. Everything looks and feels kind of beta.

pssst, nobody should know that. It is an old version and nobody shall get that. May be the people get also then: there is no real table view and the one which is there is only a list view. Buit possibly they will implement it before it goes out of diapers. Or not. What ever. They will teach us possibly that it is the normal process that there is no table. For what you need a table in Android. So they have their people using it. And at the end everybody is happy. Or not.

Have to admit I havent tried anything newer
Anyone ?
