Write Once?
Maybe write for Desktop, iOS, Android, Web. So really write FOUR TIMES.
But that might be 4 x the fun?

I didnt write the ad copy
Just a copy of the ad from LinkedIn
I chuckled when it popped up for me
…Pro-Powerful
The bugs are 20% off, too
Don’t forget the rewrites. Having fun with a recently purchased Xojo license:

Sigh…
Probably another one to become a ex-Xojo developer, does someone wanna tell him, he can get his money back?
4 years on and
a mess for no tangible benefit for existing devs
Not entirely true
API isn’t causing some of us any pain at all… but then some of us are rewriting our apps (See #1)
yeah, well see #1
Got an email a few hours ago; “ We’ve Extended The Sale Just For You!” , and on LinkedIn “ Due to popular demand, we’re extending the sale for ONE MORE DAY!” . Sceptical…
They shouldn’t have extended it just for me, I’m not renewing . I’ve rewritten the apps (it was a great experience), but not in Xojo, in Vala!
they better should stop that marketing BS…
this brought this old xkcd into mind with winzip, but it suits xojo aswell
Oh I meant
No one is going to rewrite it IN XOJO just because
But if you ARE going to rewrite why wouldn’t you avail yourself of the opportunity to use something else ?
Same. And if someone ever creates a Python framework for those targets then I’ll be gone entirely.
For sure. What I learned is that companies that offer closed source like Xojo and FileMaker eventually end up being a disrupter since they do not have the same goals at their respective customers.
Xojo got lazy about bug fixes. FileMaker wants to be like SalesForce. In both cases, they disregarded their customers needs and demands. In both cases devs were clear about the issues, but that didn’t sway Xojo and FileMaker at all.
It now seems that both the Xojo and FileMaker communities are getting smaller. FileMaker has addressed the problem with words, but no actions so far. Xojo just put its head in the sand…
To that end, I’m glad both companies has such colossal failures. I moved to PHP which took a while to replicate my needs, but now I’m where I thought I’d be with FileMaker and then Xojo.
Fool me twice…
I certainly didn’t, and I’m do feel happier for it. Yes it’s a challenge and I suspect it will continue to be a challenge, but it’s also been fairly easy to find a lot of sample code (except for acl_free).
While SwiftUI and Xojo actually have a lot in common because they’re both limited, each year Apple reduce the limitations and add improvements. Xojo on the other hand…
I have the experience and the skillz and had the desire to help Xojo, but was shoved outa the door. I wonder if that will happen with Apple?
This may interest you.
They published something pompously named a ‘road map’ which in reality is a remediation plan in order to undo the damage they inflicted to their product over the last 5 years. Claris still believes in marketing over customer-oriented product development.
Xojo Inc still busy ignoring the warnings.

Watch out Sam, you might get blocked from Xojo Forums for your advertising transition to another language
My guess: Xojo Inc will remain silent on the subject, leaving developers out in the cold.
What can they say?
They won’t abandon API2, (even though it’s probably one of the worst business decisions since the Hoover Free Flights Promotion of the 90’s)
They won’t support API1 indefinitely.
They SHOULD strive to add at least an in-house codesign/notarise function to Xojo, even if they don’t consider buying Sam’s work. (‘not invented here’)
Up until now, they have been happy to allow other people to ‘fix’ shortfalls. if the fixers go away then the latent shortfalls will render the product near useless for anyone hoping to use it for more than a toy.
It’s like watching your parents divorce.
You’re helpless to affect whats going on, nobody wants your opinion, there’s a lot of bitterness, and in the end, your whole world is in upheaval due to stuff that isn’t your fault. You end up moving home, losing your friends… actually Im going stop there. It’s too depressing.
