Unbelievable: Desktop has no colored Buttons in API 1 and 2

but hey, I only have 996 years remaining on my ban… can’t wait to get back to the Xojo fold… oh wait. I mean Xojo will fold long before then

Rather than address those critical of their practices they banned them. If they had addressed the problems those developers brought up it’s quite possible they’d be in a better spot. But, as we know that’s NOT what they did and the problems got worse.

To me, anyway, it seems pretty obvious that they’re just treading water to stay afloat. I just don’t see a lot of new (and younger) people on the forums and while I’m not following the consulting leads as much as I used to I’ve only seen a handful of consulting projects this year and those seemed of dubious quality. So scaring away advanced developers, not attracting new developers, and consulting leads drying up. All while offering half-baked solutions. Great strategy!

Especially while they made a few really stupid things in Web 2.

In Web 1 was action the synonym for the pressed in web 2. Why? Nobody could ever understand. And they could not rename this events when importing? That`s what I did never understood. And this is only one thing in the transistion between Web 1 and Web 2. That is something that showed that they had no interest in helping their customers. The other way around. They could provide an update which could do this. They don’t want to at all. Why? I have no Idea. That ios their service culture at all.

I could see creating a utility that helped convert from Web1 to Web2 as a bare bones minimum. I thought, briefly, about creating such a utility but that was around the time I left the community, and I also felt that it would never be good enough (i.e. every review would say what it doesn’t do), and I’d never be able to monetize it. The fact that no one ever released such a tool says much about the state of the community.

From what I gather there was some internal support for doing a conversion utility but the Powers That Be decided against it. I think it would have alleviated much of the anger if there was something even if it wasn’t perfect. Instead we got the ‘rewrite your project’ message.

I wrote one which catches all the events from the _project files and corrected them and done also a few other jobs. Also I implemented Styles inside of the open events of components like Buttons (Coloring them is not supported inside of the IDE, only in their open event or shown event or other events). That helped a bit against the most shit. I nearly freaked out when I wrote the segmented Button while I did not understand why they have implemented the new one so different to the old one what had not to be that crazy… At the end: selling was never my opinion, also not my Java Bridge to use Java directly with Xojo (a bit more comfortable than with the mbs Java but similar to it). I don’t wanted to have the problem to need external plugins. What shall I say.

I can understand that you decided against a Software for the conversion. Nothing xould be complete. And the changes in the beginning where also not really helping. Xojo has done a complete chaos producing job. Promised was that Web 1 projects will be usable with Web 2. They could have done a much better job.

This fits so many things they’ve done over the past 20 years.

Oh shit yes !

Sorry I forgot about that

Don’t panic guys! Genius just came up with a brilliant idea: what if Xojo would look for a way to help you convert Web1 to Web2 !? Rings a bell ?

Same empty promise trying to string along the few users they have left for as long as possible…

Forced in fire a looong time

I’m glad Geoff screwed this up so much otherwise I might not have dropped Xojo for PHP.

I’d be miserable right now dealing with the bugs.

It is not such big deal. I wrote a tool like that. And let me say: no real big deal. Needs a few days of love not more. I can’t understand why they provided this not in the beginning. No, they needed to do that years later. And, by the way: nothing ready, only a few empty words of the CEO.

And even if the layouts are converted the code is all API 2 so it all has to be converted as well
At least reviewed
