Lianja making the Xojo claim: fact or fiction?

Have you ever looked at Alaska Xbase++ ?
That might be an option for you if you’re nostalgic for FoxPro.

I might have some pricing information filed away somewhere but it would be 15 years out of date so it’s probably very wrong.

The people I used to deal with at Omnis were all very nice so I recommend that you make contact with them (back in the day I used to be a regular visitor to the Omnis sales office and would go for a beer and curry with one of their directors and their technical staff).

Obviously, some people are put off by licensing / runtime costs as they expect everything to be free these days but I say don’t make a judgement until you see how powerful the product is.

Hm, no, I was not aware of it, thanks for pointing me to it. Looks like the pro license has some unspecified mobile app capability, and both do Windows and web but not macOS or Linux. Also the licensing is a little steep but I doubt it would be an obstacle to anyone trying to keep a Clipper or FoxPro code base viable. Is it so fantastic that one would do significant greenfield work with it? Probably not. But then IDK that Lianja would be many people’s first choice for that, either.

It looks like this has historically been syntax-compatible with the Clipper dialect and they are still working on FoxPro compatibility, which is not yet released. It will be the cornerstone of xBase++ version 3.0. Although the existing product has already some accommodations for FoxPro syntax. On the other hand, v 2.0 was released way back in 2015 so … no idea what the actual time frame is here.

Not me, I’ve spend a decent amount on money in my life into software, xojo investment was comparably very cheap (though too expensive), but what I don’t like much are companies not revealing their prices upfront. At least their entry points should be publicly available. Probably I just hate sales people too much

“If you gotta ask, you can’t afford it” is my working assumption, lol

true  , and on top, if they have good sales people (what those company usually have) it will be a pain in the neck to get rid of those.

Latest at Christmas they will come back “Howdy, just a quick shout to check, if …” and the truth “Listen, I had some spare time and I like to investigate into new tools” won’t help a dime

 :joy:
